Q: Where is iTunes DJ in iTunes 11?

I just upgraded to iTunes 11 and noticed that iTunes DJ is missing from the Sidebar as well as from the dropdown menu. I used this feature often at my house for parties so iPhone users could have fun suggesting music.

What happened to this feature? Is it still there, but hidden?

Mac Pro, OS X Mountain Lion

Really good post calicoradio!!  I predict that 2013 is going to be a rough year for apple.....They are losing me, and I'm a normal sample of a person.   Just trying to relocate 300 gigabytes of raw movie footage with mountain lion took a ridiculous amount of effort.

it's like a bad experience at a resturant...that's usually a one time event, and then that resturant never sees me again.

i moved back to 10.7 but what a waste of time and effort...All i ever use is DJ...

thanks for the guidance on Android, it's sure sounds like it's time is coming.  Hello Nexus!

Yay! 30 pages! Apple are loosing me, too. When I get a tablet, it probably won't be an iPad - I like what the previous comment said. Unfortunately, My mac shipped with Mountain Lion, and Internet recovery would take too long on our slow connection (5mbps Down 0.38mbps Up). That would ruin our Internet if I did Internet Recovery. Considering I'd like to :-(.

Sad as it is, it's not just this - Mountain Lion, iPhone 5 Scrolling Fast Issues, iOS 6 Maps and a lot of other things including PowerPC Support, and, obviously, iTunes DJ. I hate Mountain Lion so much, I'm running a Parallels VM of Snow Leopard - The best Apple intel OS . I wonder the problems in 10.9. Come on apple!

Are you running Snow Leopard Server or Snow Leopard client in Parallels?  If SL client did you install from these instructions?:

Nice chat but some of us don't know what you are talking about so its not of much practical value to the group unless you bring everyone up to speed! Just sayin'....

They are moving, converting or pulling out of the iTunes scene. Mac talk.

You are obviously one of us PC's.

I personally have had enough of this loss of use crap. Remember the day when you had an LP, tape or disc that you could do what you want with. I firmly believe in owning what you pay for and the responsibility attached to that. There are other ways to protect music and such, without making a monopoly out of other peoples work.

I am upset about the fact they have all my money and I can't use my music elsewhere without infringing on the rights laid out in a countless amount of rhetoric called "Terms of Use".

Yah, I agree, I didn't read it all and I still knew what it meant. Guess who's richer.

    Not me.

They wonder why people download on the sly...

If I feel upset with a couple hundred bucks invested, I can only imagine the poor soul's with thousands. Lets hope they got a Mac.

    PC out.

So there is no way to now randomly play songs from your library?  Selecting songs and moving them to the playlist is not random.

dlacki, you nailed it, best, most concise statement of the problem with 11.  But it just doesn't seem like anything we do is going to get any action out of apple.  I'm listening to 10.7 right now, and it's making sour on the whole ecosystem, when i used to be an optimist about it.

Just go back to the original post.  We are all discussing the fact that the most elegant, simple and useful feature in Itunes was arbitrarily eliminated with the release of itunes 11. No more itunes DJ.  it's about all i used itunes for.

Oh Apple, this is a huge disappointment.  I used iTunes DJ all the time.  You've taken it away for some unknown reason.  I tried to roll back to iTunes 10.7, but it is essentially impossible.  Really bad move!  PLEASE reinstate iTunes DJ.

    Hi Designer Cow.

It's not "impossible," to revert to 10.7.....many of us have done so, with varying "hitches," like losing playlists etc, which happened to me.

That's not too much of an issue, as I change them almost weekly..but it can be done, and relatively painlessly with a few simple steps which, if you trawl through the earlier part of this discussion, will be made clear in a few basic steps.

My only and continuing gripe, is that I'm still getting reminders to "upgrade," to 11.01.......

It's NEVER going to happen, till they provide a solution to this problem.

I'm wondering how many people have "contacted," Apple with their grievances over this.

I have, on a number of occasions, though I'm not holding my breath that it's done any good..
