Up Next does NOT replace iTunes DJ, because guests at your party can't queue up or vote up music, simple as that.

Until Itunes DJ is reintroduced to iTunes 11, there is a simple soultion > Go back to iTunes 10.7, like I just did.

Here is the link for iTunes 10.7 64bit for Windows:

    You can thank me later.

If you go to the remote app it will show whats playing.  Click on the icon in the top right corner to show the track listing, i.e. whats up next.  There is an add button that allows you to add a song to the list.  It is not queued in the same way as it was by iTunes but at least you can add a song to the play list via the remote app, i.e. your friends can do at a party with their iphone.

    Hope this helps... a bit.

Just in case you are still wonder what happend to iTunes DJ.

Looks like Apple has always had plans for the DJ feature. While it is not the DJ we all loved, it seems this is what is to become of it.

This is not a replacement for the total other functionality of iTunes DJ.   It totally eliminates iTunes.   IMHO, it is a substitution for iTunes.  It requires either iPad, Spotify, or Winamp to be the host not iTunes.   I do not care to rebuild my library and playlist and song counts.  I have tried Spotify (on both Mac and PC) and Winamp (on PC) and what took munitues to sync using iTunes took hours using those as they weren't built with iPod sync in mind.   I have 10 years devoted to now over 1TB of legal music spanning over 5 decades with play counts going back to my first time using iTunes.  It seems that everyone here is only concerned with voting... I could careless about voting as I am the only one that listens to my music. What I do care about is the ability to randomly play my library with the ability to edit the playlist without interfering with the rest of the list.  The ability to edit the rest of my library while iTunes DJ is playing without disturbing what is playing or scheduled to play.  The ability to go back from one playlist in see the order that it was played including duplicates, see what is playing and what is about to play without interfering with what is playing.  I will stay with iTunes 10.7 on both my Mac and PC until Apple decides to put it back in.  If Apple requires an update to use iTunes Store, I guess that I will not be using iTunes Store anymore... don't buy much from iTunes Store anyhow.

    Well said.

I am also resolutely committed to retaining the indispensible capabilities of iTunes 10.7.

And likewise, I couldn’t care less about the voting feature of iTunes DJ. But I DO use iTunes DJ for 2-3 hours EVERY DAY to stream a fresh menu of music from my library – a music stream that I’ve never heard before and will never hear again. All with ZERO intervention required on the part of the listener.

At the opposite extreme from the serendipity you can enjoy with iTunes DJ, iTunes 10.7 is also far more helpful than iTunes 11, should you prefer instead to create meticulously “composed” playlists of specific songs designed to play in specific order. For example, in iTunes 11 it is not possible to open two playlists in separate windows, then select a song from Playlist A, and drag it precisely into the 5th playback position of Playlist B. Multiple windows are a pretty basic requirement if you want to do detail oriented work with playlists (just as they are in the case of Excel spreadsheets or Word documents), but iTunes 11 eliminates support for multiple windows.

Finally, for those of us who have invested considerable effort in assembling good quality artwork for the albums in our libraries, the essential banishment of album art from iTunes 11 (except for thumbnail views) is incomprehensible. For those who considered the presentation of album art in iTunes 10.7 to be useless bloat, it was quite a simple matter to switch it off. But – incredibly – there is no way to switch it ON in iTunes 11.

We are witnessing here the larger strategy of transforming the Mac version of iTunes into iTunes for iPad. Or “iTunes Lite,” if you prefer. In fact, Apple seems to be redefining the concept of “innovation” as that process by which incredibly useful (and enjoyable) features that were previously developed, deployed and supported are unceremoniously dumped from the platform. The day may not be far off when you can only get whatever functionality Apple decides to provide via iCloud incarnations of strategic apps. Oddly enough, that’s exactly the Big Brother model, which Apple’s 1984 Super Bowl commercial so famously railed against.

@mefc - I think what happened with Final Cut helps to prove your point.

I wish I could submit the removal of iTunes DJ as a bug report. It was so totally awesome. The up next feature is, for lack of a better word, crap.

Why can't you? (even though it's not really a bug)

Unfortunately looks like may have to use itunes11 if I want iphone5s - darn.

    1) I have to click on a little drop down menu to see what's coming up. I REALLY like the playlist view that itunes DJ provided.

    2) I can't easily reorder upcoming songs to my liking.

    3) I can't randomly add songs from my library to the playlist w/o messing up the playlist I'm playing.

    4) I can't have friends submit requests via their iPhones.

    5) I miss the ability to have the list of recently played songs easily viewed.

e.g. I have a playlist "Awesome & Unknown" that has 5-star, 4-star & no-star songs. I weight it to play highly rated songs more often. It will play non-stop while I'm working on my project. When I get a break, I can go back to the list & easily give ratings to songs w/o ratings. I don't have to hover over the machine to rate the song as it plays.

I can do some of these things from the teeny-tiny drop down menu, but it seems like a bass ackward way of "improving" a user experience. It's like nails on a chalk board. What I used to be able to do w/ 1 or 2 or no clicks, now takes 3 or 4, IF I can do them at all.

Sorry, misread your comment. I thought you were asking what can't I do. I guess the biggest reason that I can't submit a bug report is that I'm not a developer. I guess I can agree to the developer terms, & submit the bug report / feature request, but that also seems wonky.

There is no obviously easy way for a consumer to submit a feature request or bug report.

You don't have to get a new iPhone. I've been using Macs since the late 80s. And I've been using iTunes since before it was iTunes. And I've been using a Nexus phones with iSyncr for many years. iSyncr wirelessly syncs with iTunes. Works great : )

I'm not sure where we have got to with iTunes11. I downloaded it found my main feature of iTunes DJ had gone, panicked and down graded back to 10.7. Now I am looking to upgrade to ios7 and am worried that I have to upgrade to 11. Now I can cope with loosing cover flow and I don't use some of the reomte adding "party" features. All I want to do is have the Mac randomly select songs and play them. iTunes DJ was perfect. Click on it, produce a list, press play and off we went. I use this EVERY day and love when it picks a piece of music I had forgot on about. Anyway any help would be appreciated
