I want iDVD so I'm considering putting iLife 08 on my iMac

I want iDVD so I'm considering putting iLife 08 (buying brand new disks) and putting it on my iMac (2011 version, I just got it this summer). If I do this, will everything still function as it should... and will iDVD work on my iMac?

iMac (27-inch Mid 2011), Mac OS X (10.7.5)

Yes and yes!

Run software update after installation to ensure you have the latest version.

But you should buy iLife 9, not 8.

Will it erase my iMovie that I have now?

Also when you install iLife 09 or 11, iMovie 06 is not removed from the computer. Previous editions of iMovie were always un-installed when "upgrading" in the past. Apple leaves iMovie 06 on your system, because they want you to have it. iMovie 06 works great with iDVD 09 and iDVD 11.

Apple knows how important iMovie 06 is for many users.

You can have both iMovie 6 and iMovie 9 (11) installed.

Happily this is easily achieved, but it has to be done backwards.

Delete iMovie 11 (just drag it to the trash). Now install iMovie 6 from the iLife 6 install disks.

Now re-install iMovie 11. This automatically moves iMovie 6 into a folder it creates in your Applications folder called iMovie Previous Version.

Then reinstall iMovie 11.

Now you have them both, and you can have both in the Dock as well.

Alternatively you could try this method, suggested by poster Uitech:

Open a terminal and type "touch /Library/Preferences/com.apple.iLife011.plist"

(No quotes)

Install iMovieHD6 from the iLife 6 install disk.

This works with both Leopard and Snow Leopard Macs.

I recieved the iLife 08, put it in my iMac and selected to only download the iDVD... after download I noticed right away that my iTunes icon had changed so I opened it... the whole format looked older.... however, my iMovie stayed the same.. iDVD popped up on my dock, so I clicked on it. It would not allow me to open the app and said "You can't use this version of the application iDVD with this version of Mac OS X. -- you have iDVD 7.0"

What do I do?
