Hi Tony & welcome,
How did you transfer them?
If you can see them on your Mac, use iPhoto>File>Import to Library. 🙂
I'm also new and just starting to look at my photos. At the moment the whole collection (masses) are neatly filed in folders by day and by year in 'Pictures'.
If I import them into iPhoto will I be duplicating them? In other words will I now have two versions in different places within the 'pictures' folder?
Hi Bob, I don't know, I don't use iPhoto, I use GraphicConverter so I can keep my pics where I want... & do more with them...
GraphicConverter has a powerful Browse Folder function, & many tools for manipulation, & you can keep your Pics wherever you want.
Thank you. How di I give you a green tick? (I owe someone else an orange star!)
Bob
I agree with BD that GraphicConverter is amazing and well worth its price. However, iPhoto is fine and you should at least start with it.
When you import to iPhoto, it will do nothing to your original photos: They will not be deleted, moved, or modified. iPhoto will create its own iPhoto Library which will appear to the Finder (and thus to you) as a single file but is actually a bundle of all your photos. If you have a very large number of photos (tens of thousands) and are short on storage space, maybe you have cause to be concerned; but most likely not, a hundred gigabytes or even more isn't going to fill up a new Mac's drive.
Thank you John,
Most helpful,
Ok I'll try iPhoto first and if I need more I will give Graphic Converter a go.
Up until now I have always fought shy of applications that don't use traditional filing. Maybe I will edit in iPhoto and then export as I have done before....
I imported them with a thumb drive. I show them on my home screen and can view them but can't figure out how to import them into i-photo. I opened i-photo and don't see any menu that says file or import photos?
Only the original poster can give awards in the thread! 🙂
Ah! Well thank you anyway!
