How to downgrade iTunes 11 to previous version 10.7

Software update just installed the new iTunes 11, and it really blows. I want to downgrade back to version 10.7 (where the organization made a lot more sense). How do I downgrade, since all the links I've found for 10.7 take you to the iTunes 11 download page?

ARGHHH! Who is ruining Apple! I spent 6 months tweaking my iPad and iPod nano 3rd generation for use with my bands shows and iTunes 11 deleted all my playlists off them and made them the same as my Mac. I DON'T WANT THEM THE SAME AS ON MY MAC!!!!!!

I think heads should roll at Apple. This is idiotic. iTunes 11 has a moronic interface. How do I bill Apple for the hours I am going to waste trying to set things back? I don't even remember asking for iTunes 11. I am pretty sure (though obvioulsy not certain) that I unchecked iTunes for the last software update on my Mac. And to top it all off iTunes 11 keeps locking up and I have to forcequit the thing.

I am a musician, not a computer geek. I got a Mac for it to be easy to use and Apple does this to me? I guess all their good programmers must have left and gone to other companies.

(end rant)

Call. 1-800-MYAPPLE. Let the panic and rage show in your voice. They will except your call from the fee, at least they were a few days ago. They walked me through a few adjustments I couldn't find on my own in my panicked state of mind.

I've chosen to downgrade. The idea that I can't scrub to a new place in a podcast is unacceptable, which is why I (self-bleeping) HATE HATE HATE the mobile iTunes and have started using dropbox for podcasts.

The things you want and need to do can no longer be done in the rewritten application. You need to ask for support (tell them you're willing to pay, they will not charge you, because they're trying to assess internally the scope of their screw-up) for undo-ing the mess the upgrade created for you. You have a very strong case and Apple needs to hear it in the strongest possible way.

IMO, this is what a Steve-free Apple gets us.

That hit the nail right on the head!!!!

Well, calling isn't working, I've called twice and both times was on hold for 6 minutes before they hung up on me (or their system dropped the call becaue it is a big turd like iTunes 11).

Does anyone know if I take my Macbook Air and iPad and iPod to an Apple store if they'd help me there? I really need to get this fixed before our next show on Friday night.

I'm going through the downgrade instructions now, thanks for the link. iTunes 11 is a massive change and a huge undertaking for the software developers, so I should've known there would be quite a few things that wouldn't work properly. I'm just overwhelmed by how much has changed to the point where I just cannot work with it anymore.

I have a DJ gig next weekend and rely on my iTunes account and iTunes Match to serve me up all the songs and playlists I need. There are soooo many bugs that I have absolutely no choice but to downgrade. It's been a huge waste of time and I really wish I'd learn my lesson with upgrading software I rely on so much!

Another thing which I think really needs sorting out... The new iTunes Store is AWFUL. I used to be able to go through and quickly buy songs to add them to the DJ playlist, but now it's all style over substance, and the UI doesn't even flow well. The song buttons work differently depending on if you click the middle (plays the song) or the edge (opens the album page)... I cannot begin to say how many shades of wrong that is. Where can I just see a list of the most popular songs so I can preview one after the other without clicking all over the place? I just hope their revenues drop for iTunes 11 users, so they reconsider this awful new interface.

Come back, Ping... All is forgiven!! 😉

My fault I deleted my iPod songs while in iTunes 11, but catch this: a recovery program doesn't work, or at least the help in India couldn't figure it out and have referred me to their engineers. But--I have to call on India time, which begins at 10:30 PM ET. Should be a lot of fun tonight while the engineers try to figure out how to interface my iPod, the recovery program, and iTunes 11,which they probably are not familiar with.

Can anybody tell me if after restoring iTunes 10.7 using any of the above methods, does all of your album artwork, etc... i.e. the stuff that appears in the Get Info section appear the same after the downgrade or is that stuff lost? I spent a serious amount of time updating all of the album artwork to many of the songs that i have in iTunes, especialy many, many singles from the 50s-70s that i had from mix CDs i had made years ago and REALLY don't want to have to go and do all of that again! I would rather deal with the train-wreck that is iTunes 11 than have to go back and do all of that time-consuming work again. I know it may not be important to some, but I certainly enjoy seeing the artwork, especially from old 45s as they were when those songs were first released, not to mention the release dates/years that those songs came out. I have downloaded Pacifist and AppZapper and already backed up my Media folder in anticipation of reverting back to 10.7, but i have almost 15,000 songs in my iTunes library(some of you probably/may have more than that, maybe not, but my library is still growing....) and would be extrememly annoyed(moreso than i already am with 11) if i lost all that work i did... Any advice would be much appreciated. Didn't see anyone post anything about artwork, unless i missed it in my reviewing of this thread.

Thanks!

I agree. I am a group x instructor and change my music often--this version is not user friendly.

I have trouble creating new playlists. Not sure how to do it--I have been clicking on 'view' to add a new playlist-is this correct? I think I jsut got lucky by clicking on things randomly.

How do you burn a playlist to a CD???

Also when I want to listen to a newly created playlist for some reason the songs do not play in # order-though I dont have them in 'shuffle mode'.

I'm so sorry that I upgraded (if you could call it that) to this version of iTunes!

Ok, so I took the leap and went ahead and restore 10.7, which worked splendidly... I used the instructions from the MacWorld site. All went off without a hitch.... EXCEPT, that now when i try to return my iTunes Media folder that i saved to my external drive, i consistently get a message saying there isn't enough space on my HD to complete the copy. Also get the same message when i try to restore that same folder using Time Machine. I know that there is enough space on my HD, and i have even deleted some other large files that were taking up a fair amount of space, so there is more space available than the size of the folder. Do not quite understand why i can't move that file back, when it has not changed in size and there is MORE space available on my HD than i need.... HELP!!
