Good luck KG. I was on the phone with AppleCare after 40 minutes and he suggested just waiting it out. Also we had a plan B which was eventually to take the AppleTV and restore it through iTunes and a mini USB cable.

I could see it was creeping across extremely slowly. But I had originally thought it was stuck. Since I had iTunes 11 to go through I was distracted, thankfully. And the process did finally complete.

You have to love that AppleCare is right there - a phone call away.

Same problem Apple TV 3, I dissconnected the ethernet cable and went wifi. The 5.1.1 update worked using Apple tv wifi.

I originally did this to fix the Hulu Plus video stream problem. 5.1.1update should have fixed the problem but it didn't. After you update make sure everything works, mirroring, streaming hulu, etc...

I called customer service, I was told I'd need to connect Apple Tv to my computer via Micro usb cable, which is not included in the box.. I can't find one in my multi box of cables, so I decided to go to the apple store and exchange it. Too much trouble for something I just bought!

I bought this online, to aviod the mall!!!!!!

Ugh, Good luck to everyone else! FYI 14 day return period for online items. From date of delivery....

Must be the update itself, not necessarily stressed servers. Sat down to watch The Dark Knight Rises and had the update so figured the storm had passed and was foolish and said ok. Got 2/3 of the way through step 1 of 2 and after seeming to be stuck for 30 minutes, I put a sticky on the screen to see if it was or moving. Then found this thread. It has moved a couple of pixel widths since. So I guess no TDKR for me this morning....

"a sticky on the screen" - brilliant.

People everywhere are saying that if you disconnect the ethernet cable and restart AppleTV on WiFi the update will go quickly. Someone I read said he got suspicious about ethernet when one of things the update was supposed to take care of was some Ethernet issue. So he started over with wifi and had an easy update.

Mine did finish. I refused to interrupt it and after about an hour I was ok.
