Q: Move column browser to left side vertically rather than on top horizontally?

Upgrades to itunes 11 and now I can't move the column browser to the left side like i did before i upgraded. Anyone find a fix or is it not possible? I don't want album artwork, just a scrollable list of artists. Thanks.

I know I have this complaint also.

I just updated to itunes 11 with great regret.

    - I can no longer view my column browser on the left side, the only option is to view it on top.

    - There is no longer a cover art preview on the bottom left corner in songs list view. Previous itunes, you could view the artwork by clicking on the song without actually playing the song.

As a company with such forward thinking ideals and a focus on cover art integration into devices, I am surprise as to why they would get rid of this feature.

I sure hope they update this for us customers.

Seconding that request to get the left-hand column viewer back - I loved that old view for really narrowing down what I want to listen to at the time.  I know I can switch to the artists or genre view, but I liked being able to specify genre first and then viewing the second column of artists after that! It was a much easier way to find music in a large library!

    I completely agree.

Screens are wider than they are high. It doesn't make sense to try and fit vertical scrolling lists into small vertical spaces (for which you need to sacrifice space for other such lists below them).

Come on Apple, please use some common sense and restore this option!

Unfortunately , the option to have the artist and album browser in left columns has been removed.   Big bummer

What's an update for if it removes flexibilty?

I hope Apple adds the top/side option to the column browser view - shouldn't be THAT difficult...

    Until then trying to downgrade.

Inability to put column browser on left severely hinders browsing for people like me - audiophiles.

Also, even customizing the column browser for playlists is extremely unweildy because you have to "Hide Sidebar," change your view options for the sidebar in any given playlist, then turn the Sidebar back on...

PLEASE LET ME put the column browser on the LEFT!

There is a way to put the column browser in left view, in fact, it is the excact same method as in previous iTunes versions.

First, click the "artists" button in the top tab, and then activate the column browser. This solved the problem for me.

Na, see if you go to "songs"  the column browser is on top.  The old version used to have it so the column could be on the side, which made it super easy to find stuff.

in iTunes 10 you had the ability to move the browser to the left, like this:

    itunes10.jpg

in iTunes 11 you are stuck with the browser up top with a split horizontal screen, like this:

    itunes11.jpg

The browser up top is fine if you have a large monitor or a big iMac, but it severly hinders productivity and wastes valuable space if you have a small widescreen MacBook Air.

It's not the same, and again wastes space. It breaks up albums into little sections which I don't want. I'd rather a simple list without indentations for each album with artwork. I have 24,000 songs right now and have no need for double spacing, album art, and this foolishly unadjustable font size. I don't care that they added aesthetic changes, but i'll take function over form in an application anyday.

Just adding another post, same complaint here. I actually like 11, but I can't understand why moved the browser back to the top. The long verticle left scrolling was great, the browser at the top is a huge waste of space and makes it tougher to scroll through, less room for everything.

Apple. Please add an option to put the browser back on the left. SO SIMPLE.

Same here. Really like the look of itunes 11, but I need (if that's not too strong a word) the vertical column browser back, together with the album list option, including artwork. Also, I've notice, the Artist List in Artist List view list the artists in Sort Artist order, which is logical, in Music, but seems to list artists in random order in Playlists. AND I can't select more than one artist at a time from this list if I want to move or edit more than one. Fix these please Apple!

I have found a solution to the Sort Artist in the Vertical column in the playlists problem. It seems to prioritise Album Artist over Sort Artist, so I've left Album Artist blank, and voila. Fixed. Now about those vertical column browsers and album lists...
