Q: Mac Mini (mid-2011) dual display with extended desktop

Can Mac Mini (mid-2011) dual display different picture on HDMI TV and DVI monitor. I can only get it to mirror and not display different programs or extended desktop. Can i "extend" instead of "mirror"? and how

no splitter. panasonic tv is connected via HDMI to HDMI. dell monitor is connected via mini-display (through klgihtning port) to DVI. i cant find a box to change from "mirroring" to "extend" or something similar/ I looked at the manual and searched the discussion forum. is there a screen shot of what I should be seeing in the display settings.

I don't have a dual Monitor setup anymore, but as I recall, it should show in System Preferences>Displays.

Quick key commands for video controls:

    • Push Command-F1 to toggle between video mirroring and extended desktop
    • Push Command-F2 to detect displays

I have been using 2 NEC Multisync monitors with the extended desktop connected display 1 with HDMI to DVI cable and dosplay 2 connected with mini-display to DVI cable.

I also have a Windows machine with dual DVI connected with DVI to HDMI cable to each monitor and select computers with the input select switch on each monitor.

The only issue I am having is sometimes the Mac gets amnesia on display 2's background and short of restarting almost nothing fixes it reliably.

for others with the some question, it is the Arrangement tab at the top of the display settings that allows you to make this change. Thats the "button" I could not find.
