Q: iTunes 11: No more album art preview for selected track??? :(

For me, iTunes 11 is much worse than iTunes 10.

You can no longer view album art by selecting a track in list view.

In list view, album art is invisible — the album art square in the lower left-hand corner is gone. So unless the track is playing, you can't see album art. This is terrible news for people who need list view, like DJs. People like me who rely on album art to remember what an album is, can no longer just click around and see the covers. This was a tremendous memory aid, which is now gone.

Now to see album covers, you have to either play the track, or switch to grid or artist list — which show either no tracks, or very few tracks.

Bummer.

The only way I know to do it in iTunes is track by track in the Artwork tab.  I have tagging tools on my Windows PC that allow me to do it with multiple tracks.  I rarely add multiple artwork though

    Apple,

Please allow us to see our album artwork in the lower left column.  I don't see a reason to take it away other then to change it.  But allowing a user to have that option would be a better thing to do.  Obviously there are enough of us that want it back and miss it.  Please fix this.....I'm beggin!

Wish I had done this, but will not waste the time on it as my back up is 2TB.

    But this bites big time!

Itunes 11 is useless for people with a large library who care about their music. If at least in artist view you could configure columns like you did in iTunes 10 with data grid view....

In artists I can't see my comments, who produced the track...

And in list view I need the cover art. Why can't they just simply add the cover column you could resize like in itunes 9..... this was sooooo amazing and shouldn't be that hard to implement.....

And the problem is.... try to find an alternative. Songbird hangs up on loading 60k tracks... other tools rely on itunes and spotify messes up file handling and displays artists from online.....

What's getting me mad about how album art can be seen is not only do you have to play a track to see the normal size, but if you stop the track so you can examine the cover, the overlay of controls will not disappear.

I make my own cover scans from my own collection. I color correct. I straighten. I spend a lot of time. Now I want to see how it looks in context. But I find I have to play the track and turn off the speaker in order to just look at the graphic.

Just updated to iTunes 11. The loss of artwork in song mode is really annoying! I used to use the artwork to help me organise and keep track of songs. Really poor.

I'm with you Andy. I've scaned in approximately 4,500 CD and LP covers, color corrected and cleaned in hi-rez, and this move to omit these features ****** me right off. I've only been working on and off for the past 5-6 ******* YEARS to take full advantage of these features, only to have Apple yank them out from under me.

Can someone tell me if it is possible to make a fat black line so that you actually can see where the new album starts... Or have Apple also removed that feature from 10?

    Boklavah...

I truly feel your pain. I have thousands of CD, LP and DVD covers that I edited and corrected JUST for itunes.  Now, all that work was for nothing.

What I've discovered in the first 10 minutes of upgrading to v11...

    1. No album artwork in song list (HUGE... MASSIVE FAILURE)

    2. No feature separating albums in the song list.

    3. The vertical scroll-bar will disappear in the iTunes Store if I have the side-bar open.  I have to close the side-bar and re-open it to get the scroll-bar back.

    4. The search engine in the store is terrible.  Do a search and get thousands of returns. Sort by any given category, browse and make a selection. Go back after viewing your selection and you have to start over. It doesn't save your search category or last position.

    5. After searching for an artist or song in the store, you used to be able to sort "all songs" ascending or descending by column (song name, album, popularity, etc.). Not anymore. Now you have to plod through the list song-by-song with no filter or sorting options AT ALL.

This is why I rarely allow itunes to update.  Besides the fact that it needs updating virtually every time I run it and it always takes way too long, they always find a way to screw it up. You really have to wonder what all those "geniuses" at apple are thinking when they release this stuff.  They put so much effort into making it pretty that they have to remove practical features to make room for the new graphic features. Then, as they add all those barriers to protect it, they forget that it actually has to work, which it usually doesn't.

As the old saying goes... "Beauty is only skin-deep. It's what's inside that counts"... and that's why I have an Android phone.

I can't believe they took out the thing I liked most!  I usually let itunes play on my pc and have the covers flow so I can see them as they shuffle.  Apple really screwed up!

I agree totally and sent my feedback to Apple about the coverflow and album art missing from the songs catergory.

Why doesn't Apple just give us the option to view cover art instead of just removing it, Its hard to see the little album cover at the top of the page and only appears when you select a song to play.

Apple really screwed the pooch and Steve Jobs just rolled over in his grave.

I wouldn't be surprised if Apple lost customers due to these little changes that affect everyone. I'm really curious to see how many people will stop buying Apple products due to the ****** developers that alter iTunes Player.

Honestly, I'm considering switching to something better.

Not sure they will loose customers just because of the messed up iTunes.

More likely they loose customers by the way they treat critizism.
