Q: iTunes 11: No more album art preview for selected track??? :(

You keep saying the problem is solved, and yet the entire, single point of this thread is that there is no more large album artwork in "song" view. 

That is the point.  There are other issues I have which may or may not have workarounds.  I don't care as much about those. 

It's frustrating to see people act as if there is no issue, when the entire, very obvious and clear point of this thread is to point out the lack of this album artwork which has not been solved.  It is also frustrating to see people point out the same very flawed and disfunctional workaround of the separate window, which I have explained does not work, and yet people keep waltzing in and and declaring it solved. 

It is not solved.  I much preferred itunes10 for the single reason of large album artwork in song view.

Really I like to help others  but I don't like to be attacked for this!

Why do you have to use song view for your library? Can you not use a blend of different views to order your playback. As stated before, the work-around for your very specific need of seeing album artwork (for selected songs that are not playing only) in song view, is to toggle back and forth between song and album, artist or genres view. Also, in both Artist and Genre view you can change artwork size in "View Options" from the menu bar. Are you even trying the suggested options?

I am curious as to your method of locating specific songs? Are you using only mnemonic cognition through album art to locate songs? Which means - that you can remember ONLY the album art, but not the song title, artist or genre. I find this hard to believe, because if you do, then why do you need the songs view at all?

The feedback link is there.  The problem is it is one way traffic.  It could be months, if at all, before notice is taken and even then it could be a bitty process, an update here, an update there.

However, and it's (banned?) supposition on my part.  They claim the posts aren't read by Apple seniors but I would bet that once posts reach the level of replies and views that this one has, someone will be assigned to look at the content.

Im sorry you are fustrated.. a lot of us are.. There is no reason to be rude we are all trying to help each other so please  calm down... I at least am not a fan boy I "wa" just as ****** at Apple as most but i took a deep breath, walked away from the siutation for a moment came back and found a way to accomplish what I wanted:

If you or anyone else want that  little box at the bottom bottom left then you are out of luck, its gone for now.. If you want your art work next to each track in list view or whatever it was called.. it can be done.. there is just a different way to achieve and a slightly different look.

Artist view, View > check group by compulation > then click all artists!  All your tracks will list straight down with the art work next to it the very very similur to the way it did in i-tunes 10 . It will sort in alabetical order (however you can't sort by date added, last played, BPM, ect in this view).  Say for example you have Rolling Album it will show Album Artist, Album name, and all the tracks with the ALBUM art work to the left. Want the ART WORK larger or smaller use the slider in View > View options to change size.

I have my lap top next to me with itunes 10 and its 98% identical (give or take a %)..  if you want me to do a sceed shot of this in 10 and 11 so u can see how identical they are let me know.  if this is not want you want to accomplish I suggest you find a MAC with itunes 10 do a screen shot of what you want to accomplish and send it to us.  Good Luck

Opening the artwork in the separate window DOES NOT WORK as I have said about 4 times now, because it opens in the movie window, so everytime you watch a movie it gets moved and resized and you have to configure it all over again.  That is not a workable solution for me.  It just winds up closed as it makes for way too much work both for watching movies, and for reconfiguring the window everytime. 

 

READ these posts if you are going to try to say the issues are resolved.  And USE your brain.

I can;t believe how simply the work around is.. so I fotget about song vew and just use Artist view... lists all my tracks with the ARTWork just as it did in itunes-10 song view...  I admit I hate change and was furious about this... but in end it works wonderfully. I just wish I could sort by date added in arttist view.. 

and it's EXACTLY this kind of comment that we regard as belittling and suggestive of a VERY controlling attitude.

and causes some of us to suspect that you actually have very little desire to be helpful to those of us who have a sincere problem with the new version.

And since you (or anybody else) have been able to even suggest WHY this option was removed, we are, understandably, not really keen to be lectured and dismissed by someone who clearly JUST DOESN'T GET IT.

U should be able to highlight select the tarcks and then drag one art work, then the other and another.  if you want each track to have a different art work you have to do them one at a time.

I know we are all a little fustrated but what I do not understand is why some people are being rude about the suggestions folks are making to help them... Thats not acceptable.  If you do not like the help offered perhaps you can try another forum. Be mad at APPLE please do not take it out on the people in the same postion.

Just read your comment that the link to complain doesn't go anywhere. I just tried to find it doesn't too, it did work a fortnight since when I first posted it on here. I note that your suggestions DO appear to work for others, with different issues...

but solving them and telling the rest of us to just give up and otherwise speaking dismissively to other posters just isn't your right..

nor is it your right to tell anyone else what does and doesn't make sense.

Now you apparently have no issues with the new update - and you have liberally spread your advice and solutions.. so why are YOU still posting in a thread that is complaining about the issues that you have been unable to solve.?

I apologized if thats the way it was preceived.. but that was not my intent at all.. I am the last person to go around telling people how to operate MACs as I knnow very little.  if you see my other postst I thought I had mention something along the line of NOT wanting to take away peoples opinion or something of that nature. My intent was to share what knowledge I found so hopefully other people in my situation can find some satusfacion.  I have offered to show screen shots of 10 & 11 with the similur views and have posted my resolution a few times. If my resolution does not work for you or others I'm sorry,,, But to  allude to the fact I may have very little desire to to be helpful is a unfair presumption. But, I am thinking perhaps you read my "its gone for now, good luck comment" in haste and out of fustration for Apple and I again am sorry if you preceieved it in a negative way.  I'm hoping you may at least give my suggestion a try.

As far as the "WHY" it was done I have no answer.. perhaps due to a technical issue with the lay out, I have no idea.  Will Apple tell us the reason behind changes, not sure... All I can suggest is we post our experiences and if that does not work we just move on to another post and try another method.  And, if we still have no resolution or satisfaction we just try to work with what we have or switch to another product. Its not being rude its just being real.  Happy new year.

What is lost for me as far as aesthetics, is the album art in List view like this:

Why do I miss this? Because I have all of my music in playlists starting with Genre folders then Artist folders. I also have custom playlists with random albums base on mood etc. I always used this album art view above because it allowed me to move albums around in a custom fashion.

Now, while there is Artist view that gives me a similar view, I am locked in to how iTunes wants to organize my music. So yes I can see the art in this view, but I can't move music around. I have to list by Year or Title or whatever. The means to customize my playlists while still seeing the album art is completely removed. Or I could just use the new List view and not get to see my album art anymore unless a track is playing which is, quite honestly, a terrible user experience.

Well said Ian, this is one point that agravates me on this subject, Apple seem to be trying to force on us the clunky album view, whick looks quite nice apart from the fact I have a number of albums from non-mainstream genres, so there are patches of white squares

I'm another one like grufnmuf who has been following this thread for a long time now, and have also been frustrated with the fact that by many our displeasure has been dismissed as haters of change, reading tips by people who just don't get it and are advising over and over to click on the small artwork image at the top, blah blah.....

No disrespect to anyone who is offering advice, but read the title of this thread...WE JUST WANT COVER FLOW BACK, and in some cases but not mine, the small artwork bottom left.
