No, if you run separate instances of SuperSync on all of your libraried Mac's, you can discover duplicates accross multiple libraries. You need not pay anything, and settle for the absent feature in iTunes, or you could try out some new tools and spend some dough.

I've spent some dough on iTunes add ons, like iTunes Library Manager, Dupin and PowerTunes.

I simply stated that just because Apple removed a feature doesn't mean that they're "smarter" than anyone, nor does it mean that they can't reinstate the feature. As they did with Select Exact Duplicates.

This thread appears to be shut down, and has disappeared from the forums.    (update, I see it back up again...   maybe Apple invoked a "cooling off" period?)

It's too bad that one person chose to derail an otherwise civil and productive discourse.      Nice chatting with you all, hope you all get iTunes11 working in a way that you find satisfactory.       I've seperately sent feedback to Apple regarding artwork.      Perhaps ichat's Mommy and Daddy will take his computer away before he corrupts any more threads.     (yes, that's a deliberate and well deserved "attack".)

On that note, I read a few comments back that there has been an udate which apparently restores some functions to version 11 which had previously been removed... although I assume that the intial issues which started this thread still exist. So, I thank those who are brave/determined enough to keep trying this wretched update and hope that further future updates will be brought to our attention.

Yeah, I don't agree with the "smarter" comment, when what has been done with iTunes 11 is in many ways dumbing down the interface.

If all users were smart, there would really be no need for all of these different views that each come with their own restrictions and peculiarities. iTunes could just have one view type, then allow the user to set options to configure it the way they want to: as a grid of album covers (like Albums view), as a list of albums (like Genres and Artists view), as a spreadsheet (like Songs view), etc. They could even allow you to create multiple view types.

The current design assumes that people are too dumb to handle that kind of customizable interface, which may be true, so Apple has given us a bunch of predefined views. Fine, but these predefined views are not flexible enough. The Genres and Artists views both have what is essentially a partial Column Browser with just one category, with no ability to enable the other two categories, and limited sorting options. The most flexible view, the Songs view, is crippled because it is lacking album art and visual dividers between albums.

To call the designers of this interface smart makes me cringe. This was a poorly thought out design that a lot of users are complaining about.

So due to an design oversight catering to an esoteric requirement (dynamic album art view in songs view) - that makes the software engineers dumb-bells? I don't think so. Probably better to say they made a mistake

I do agree that there is sufficient protest to cause Apple to fix this in a future update. I remember when they released the revamped Final Cut Pro X, and there was a tremendous outcry over the dumbing-down of the interface. Eventually Apple improved it through updates. I would expect the same with iTunes.

If not, I would expect a 3rd party developer to introduce a plug-in that allows for customized views.

The first instance of calling them dumb-bells that I can find is your post.  I'm a software developer.  Most software developers are lousy at interface design.  The good ones object to bad design.  My guess is guess is that someone in sales or management (or sales management, the worst of the worst) overrode any objections to the dumbing down of iTunes 11

Edit:  I will call one new "feature" stupid.  The that Show in Playlist is only available in the context menu when the sidebar is not visible.  I use that feature almost every day and I can't imagine why the removed it only when the sidebar is visible.

Sorry for the previous reply with no content, I hit the wrong key. ;-)

To me, it's just another example of making OSX more like an iOS device. iOs is touch based, OSX is keyboard/mouse/touchpad based. iOS is all about content consumption, there's still a lot of content creation/management done in OSX.

Can this clear difference really be lost on software developers?

Maybe they just all use iPads now and only download current singles from the iTunes store.

That call is being made way above the level of developers.  I'd guess that a lot of the developers hate it.

OSX is the only Mac operating system I've used since we've only had Macs in our house for a couple of years.  I don't find it all that great.  Better than Windows 8 though.  Both seem to be trying to change desktops into hand helds.  Not a good direction IMO.

We bought my wife's Mac because I had just bougth a Vista machine and was having all kinds of trouble.  I bought a Mac Mini just for maintaining my music library and streaming music.  My guess is that I'll eventually install Windows on the mini and use another library manager like Media Monkey or JRiver. 

I want the album art square back too!

After iTune absence I moved back (the alternative MediaMonkey looked better but was horrible) and found the AutoDJ gone (bad) and the Album Art Square gone (bad).

Wonder upon whose wishes/desires these features have been removed.

I don't think so...

Initially I missed DJ too, but the playlist functions of iTunes11 actually give you far more capabilities.   Now every playlist has the DJ power..  "add next" to anything playing, any time.     Previously you could only do that in DJ.

They are slipping.  Look at the Maps fiasco...the delay with itunes 11...Final Cut Pro X...even criticism on their latest phones.  Apple was solid in what they did...but it seems that when the leader took ill...they really started to suffer.  Now you can see that as plain as day!

You're taking the words straight out of my mouth. Apple is slipping... Mac Pro's, FCP X, iTunes, iPhone5... I really hope they'll stop aiming at consumer-profit and fix their attitude FAST.

The iPhone 5 is badass, not sure what your beef is with it, but everything else you're right. Need the dang album art in song list view!

I am very sad I am realizing that Apple died with Steve!
