I selected that option for the "replace" one but it didnt give me that option for the "continue" ones. :/

I've run out of zaps They only give you 5 for free.

    Hopefully this last time works.

To be safe, once it opens in Pacifist, are you supposed to:

    a) click and highlight the top item in the list (which selects every item below with it) and then click install?

or b) select a certain single file from in that list and click install on that only?

If you DON'T click something in the list, the "Install" logo is just grayed out..

Trying to relive the moment here ... it's been a few days.

First, I opened Pacifist and went through the nag screens/delay. I mounted the iTunes DMG and dragged the PKG file from the iTunes 10.7 window onto the Pacifist main window. This caused Pacifist to open up an "Install iTunes" window. Clicked on Contents of Install iTunes and then stabbed the Install icon in the menu. Checked the use admin privs checkbox and then the Install button.

I don't remember how many times I had to do the "Don't ask again for this installation" check box for the Replace dialogues. If you are given a choice of Replace or Update, definitely choose replace.

    OK, cool thanks.

    So error is now GONE!

But... just before I started celebrating, I scrolled a bit and was saddened to immediately notice tons of missing artwork.

Thought no big deal, I'll just dupe the original iTunes folder on my main MBP (which had never been upgraded to 11 and had added artwork to a couple hundred tracks last week), and replace it on MBP # 2 so it'd have the same library with all the artwork. Nope...

Here's where it gets weird, now half the artwork is missing on my main MBP too! Can tell at first glance because I looked through the most recently added tracks, and most artwork is gone! Not to mention older artwork is clearly missing throughout..

Wonder *** is going on here?! Its like an unknown force came in and randomly swooped a bunch of my artwork on 10.7

Maybe something to do with the cloud? Gracenote? Not sure what to make of it... mystified :/

But at least I have coverflow back!!!

Thanks to Trane and everyone else for bringing solutions to the table and no thanks whatsoever to Apple for all the hassles! Been Apple my whole life but lately it's been increasingly ridiculous. I hope they can turn it around ASAP.

Jeeze. Sorry to hear about the artwork going AWOL. I made good use of Simon Whitaker's excellent Amazon Album Art Dashboard widget in recovering my artwork. That utility has saved my bacon a couple of times now.

    No worries!

I thought the artwork was actually stripped from the files, but in fact when I searched a few on my HD, the files still came up with the mini artwork thumbnail next to them (i.e. doesn't have the music note icon), so tried doubleclicking them (itunes already open) from there and now it seems to be reconnecting iTunes with the artwork on the file.

I want to channel "Stanley Kubrick" and maybe make a movie... Kind of a "1984" meets "Bedford Wives" meets "2001: A space Odyssey"

We have lots of pretty young faces at the Genius Bar... We have slick advertising... Cool and Hip, all that. Evoking the "non-conformist" attitude, kinda counter culture, kinda elegant... Retina displays, clouds, all that...

But Apple is no longer really non conformist... it's the opposite.

I loved iTunes, as I said, especially iTunes 9.... Freakin' loved it... but I keep getting pulled away from what I want to what apple thinks I should want... in the name of the cloud, of commerce... "You don't want that! You want this!!... 'Repeat after me'..."

I grew up with crates of albums in big 12 square inch beautifully printed album covers... and ALL THAT was part of the music experience... I am 55, and last I heard.... 50-60 year olds are still a pretty big demographic.... And as I alluded to earlier, we got the money, honey....

It's kinda funny... I will buy some mp3's (not from apple, I need 320) or flac... my wife will love it... and she willl STILL go out and buy the CD... she wants those album covers...

I see young hip and cool young people at Apple telling me what I want, and they.... just... don't... seem... to... listen.... to what I want!!! They give it to me but they keep taking it away...

Now, how where did I put my copy of Windows??????

  • affenpinscher Level 1 Level 1

Exactly, Mark Block. Didn't want to get into it. Perhaps I should have, but I guess I have my doubts Apple is really listening and didn't want to waste the time. But there are real, tangible reasons why Cover Flow doesn't have an exact, drop-in replacement. Which is what I need. Well put by you, good post.

What!!  Apple has eliminated gapless playback??

The loss of the feature does NOT eliminate the ability to playback songs gaplessly. Whether an album is gapless or not is determined during the ripping process and has nothing to do with this feature.

Correct. Glad you cleared that up.

My original point had to do with a third-party app, Pure Music, that works in conjunction with iTunes. (As others have mentioned, the UI is not attractive, but once you set it up you can hide if if you'd like.) I usually have Pure Music running in the background while using Cover Flow in iTunes.

Pure Music does a couple of neat things that Apple doesn't take into account: it changes the sample & bit rate preferences in the Sound and Midi control panels automatically in the background; and it plays music out of RAM rather than off a spinning hard drive if you choose "Memory Play." The former is pure genius for those of us who have mixed iTunes libraries of HD and standard Redbook audio; the latter is something that purportedly lowers noise and jitter in the output bitstream. (Whether that's true or not is for another thread on another forum.)

It seems that iTunes 11 breaks the Pure Music memory play feature for live albums, and so I was suspecting the removal of Gapless Playback as the cause. Not sure, just guessing, but Pure Music uses the Gapless metadata tag to know when to load more than one track into RAM. I'll have to talk to the developer about whether it can be fixed.

I would NOT have upgraded if I realised I would lose coverflow.

At a first glance Cover Stream v 2.6.6 seems to be a pretty acceptable replacement for CF while we wait that Apple puts that back in iTunes (and hopefully introduces it to iPad too ).

  • JPHP Level 1 Level 1

Cover Stream seems better than the stand-alone Cover Flow.
