I need the BT to exchange some files between the 2 devices without entering into iTunes all the time or using iCloud. Even I can't connect my devices to my laptop through BT. What then is the function of the BT? Are they for fancy. Are they meant for other purposes which I do not know? Someone can help me and explain the use very well. Thanks.

This support document http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3647 explains the supported bluetooth profiles. The iPhone has never supported file transfer via bluetooth except for some peer to peer applications. You might want to look into Dropbox which will let you upload files via the Internet and you could access it from both devices, thus leaving iTunes out of the mix.
