iTunes 11 add folder to library

How do I add folders to my iTunes library? The option seems to have disappeared on iTunes 11 for Windows.

Its still there. You need to turn on the "File, Edit, View, Controls, Store, Help" Menu bar. you can select it from the icon waaaaaaayyyyy up in the top left of the Itunes player. You will find the folder option under "file" where it used to be.

Apple, please please put this back the way it was. Really, the magic "alt" key for Windows users to be able to find this heavily used menu item? I would have never guessed that without finding this thread. Why would you hide it? Add Folder to Library is not some obscure, little-used feature; it's one of the main things many of us use regularly. Expecting the use of the "alt" key to uncover a hidden menu is extremely non-user friendly and is a surprising deviation from Apple's normal approach to UI.

Thanks to those in the thread that replied. I appreciate your help.

This smells like Apple is sneaking in a new change that will give them more control over what we do with itunes. I have a library on my disk that has lots of music that did NOT come from Apple. That will never change. If this feature disappears in later versions I will throw itunes away...

Or I could be wrong and Apple just screwed up the user interface and hid a highly used feature. What do you think?

Some more handy hints for iTunes 11...

  • ALT to temporarily display the menu bar
  • CTRL+B to show or hide the menu bar
  • CTRL+S to show or hide the sidebar
  • CTRL+/ to show or hide the status bar (won't hide for me on Win XP)
  • Click the magnifying glass top right and untick Search Entire Library to restore the old search behaviour
  • Use View > Hide <Media Kind> in the cloud or Edit > Preferences > Store and untick Show iTunes in the cloud purchases to hide the cloud items. The second method eliminates the cloud status column (and may let iTunes start up more quickly)
  • If you don't like having different coloured background & text in the Album view use Edit > Preferences > General and untick Use custom colours for open albums, movies, etc.
