Home sharing not working properly after iTunes 11

Home sharing is not working properly after iTunes 11 and its related softwares updates. When streaming to ATV from mac when mac goes to sleep the atv stops playing a show. This issue was not present before the update...

Since updating to itunes 11, Home Sharing is not working.

I am running Windows 7, 64-bit.

All mobile devices are up to date with ios, including 2 apple tvs (2 & 3), iphone 4s and 3gs, ipad1 & ipad2.

I've rebooted twice, turned home sharing off, then signed back in. Still nothing. Rebooted the mobile devices. No joy.

Curiously, wi-fi sync is also not working - the devices are not showing up in itunes unless I plug them in.

Please Help!

itunes 11, Windows 7

Have also just upgraded my windows 7 x64 and my home sharing is now not working... Tried rebooting PC and ensuring that the iTunes app is open and home sharing turned on but can't access it from another PC. Checked my router and upnp is switched on ... Checked local PC firewalls etc but no joy ... My home sharing was working fine in v 10.7.1 of iTunes, but it seems v11 is broke.

Hope we see a fix soon? I assume this is confined to windows 7 x64 version of iTunes as I have not yet seen any complaints from others at this time.

On a separate note, I also have an iTunes library built into a device called netgear stora and the sharing of that device is also not working.. The stora usually shares music only and NOT films etc... But now I can see films. If I select a film the iTunes 11 app just crashes. The music sharing is not working at all on the stora. Hopefully netgear will speak with the apple developers to resolve this issue.

I cannot see why apple don't release some of this software out to more beta testers around the world prior to worldwide release. Even my iPad v1 software (v5.1.1) is quite buggy these days and often crashes a lot more than the original iOS 4.3.3.

In response to the initial post I can confirm home sharing cutting out when the Mac goes to sleep. I have the Apple TV 3, an iMac with Snow Leopard and updated to iTunes 11, and iOS 5.1.1 on the ATV. Home Sharing just stops at the regular sleep interval whether streaming music or movies from iTunes. This did not occur before the update. My short term fix is to extend the sleep interval but a proper fix would be nice.

im running windows 8 with itunes 11 and just noticed the same issue after i upgraded itunes. I ran through and checked for any updates on my devices that may not have been applied and everything is up to date. A few months back i was running into issues with homesharing on windows 7 and itunes 10, i found a post about unchecking ipv6 in the adapter properties for my network and it solved my issue. the solution continued to work even after i upgraded to windows 8, but now that i went to itunes 11 i lost it again. i also noticed that devices do not shiw up for wifi sync, and when i tried to pair my apple remote app to my library that was a now show as well. this is all very frustrating as i just spent some time familiarizing myself with the new itunes and really began to like the new feel and look... please fix asap...

Sounds like we have two different issues being discussed in the same thread:

1) Apple TV disconnecting from the Home Network when the home computer sleeps, when using iTunes 11.

2) The wider ranging issues that some Windows users have had with Home Sharing with iTunes 11.

Maybe a moderator should split these and give each discussion a descriptive title.

Definetly there are two issues discused. I do believe that we can not compare behavior of iTunes 11 on mac and win. I do not want to flame or anything, but windows guys (and girls) should start their own thread. This one is discusing sleeping issue when streaming home shared library running iTunes 11 on Mountain Lion 10.8.2. I do realize that there is a post describe same bug on Win8 but I do not have any experience with home sharing on Win 8 and I am not sure how it worked on WIn 7 either.

I'm replying to the original post about Home Sharing disconnecting between a Mac and ATV Gen 3. In my setup I have a 2010 iMac running iTunes 11 as my media server for my ATV Gen 3 with yesterday's firmware update.

When streaming using Home Sharing, the connection will drop out randomly. My iMac IS NOT set to sleep. The connection between the ATV and Home Sharing on the iMac stops at random times. During 2 hours it disconnected about 10 times.

To reconnect I had to disable Home Sharing in iTunes and re-enable it. The ATV then picked up the connection again and you could resume watching the stream. This exact same setup earlier in the day before the iTunes and ATV firmware updates could stream for hours without a glitch.

I've submitted my feedback to Apple.

My question here for those of you who stated that Sleep mode was causing your issue, was your streaming running correctly (for long periods of time) after you disabled Sleep mode?

Yes, I have tested home sharing and sleep by setting the sleep interval to 10 minutes and then playing music through my TV via ATV. It drops out after 10 minutes. I reset the sleep interval to 20 min and it drops out after twenty. I reset it again to never and it played until I turned it off. So in my situation sleep is implicated very strongly.

I am running ATV2 and had minimal issues prior to the itunes update. I have a mid 2010 iMac with mountain lion and all software is up to date. Mine is also not set to sleep. I run 2 ATV2's and BOTH are randomly dropping out since itunes 11. Driving me insane.

I start to watch a movie or tv show and sometimes it lasts 10 minutes, sometimes a minute, before it jumps back to the main menu. I then have to go back to the movie where it sometimes won't play at all but jumps back to the menu again just after showing the spinning wheel. I have restored both ATV's and rebooted my Imac AND network, but nothing seems to provide a solution. In the past I would get the occasional drop out but I would quit itunes and reopen for trouble free access.

I do not have to re-enter any passwords etc to reconnect to the homesharing. It HAS to be the new itunes as the problem wasn't present prior. If you find a soultion please let me know and I will do the same!
