App syncing in iTunes 11

Like most people I usually update my apps on my iPhone or iPad. In all previous versions of iTunes when I sync my iOS device with iTunes it would then copy over all of the updated apps to my computer. So far I haven't had any luck getting this to work on iTunes 11. Is anyone else having the same issue?

When you open iTunes 11, at the very top left corner click on the half shaded-half clear square and click 'Show Menu Bar'. Then go click on the 'Files' tab in the menu bar and go down to devices (make sure your ipod, iphone, etc. is connected) and click 'Transfer purchases from "eg. iPad". And now your the apps icon will be in your library, and therefore have all the apps that were in your device. Hope this helps!

Syncing apps from my iPod doesn't work for me either. 😟

I don't have the shaded-half clear square. (See the first attached screenshot.) I also went to the View menu andhow there's no Show Menu Bar option. (See the second attached screenshot.)

Ah, I now see what you're talking about. (You can ignore my previous message.) I don't have that square since my Menu Bar was already displayed. I went to File and selected Transfer purchases from... and it worked. Thanks!

However, prior to iTunes 11 that happened automatically. If I have to do this manually every time I think that's a major step backwards.

Thanks,

Brian

No man. I am having the same problem with a new iPod Touch, iPhone 5, iPhone 4S, and iPad 4. None of them showed up in my devices so I can't add anything to my playlists and sync it up. Pretty disappointing. You would think, of all things, this would be tested to perfection. I expect nothing less from Apple. I love the new interface, but that is a total bummer. Nobody I know can sync their devices.

I am using Windows 7 x64. My PC recognizes all the devices, but not iTunes 11. Glad I am not the only one.

That was the first thing I tried and ALL of my options are grayed out. I can't sync if I wanted to. Totally stinks. Your directions were spot on for a PC, but unfortunately none of my devices (I have 11 of them) will sync.

I know that I can Transfer Purchases, but that's really only a temporary fix. The larger problem is that iTunes 11 is having problems syncing new content from devices. Hopefully there will be a bug fix soon. I'm guessing it was just overlooked in the rush to release the app in November.

Definitely agree with everything you said. Hopefully, the bug (or bugs) will be fixed soon.

I have read on other threads here that the most effective way to communicate to Apple is to fill out their feedback form. Here's the link for iTunes:

Just filled out my bug report. 🙂

I am having the same issues with syncing after updating to iTunes 11. I have filled out the bug report as has been suggested. I am now waiting to see if they do anything. There have been several different forum on this so it is not an isolated issue. However, Apple seems to be puzzled by the issue as there have been no comments about what many of us have been experiencing. Could it be another Maps App problem in the making?

I read in another support column about a similar issue. The recommended fix was to check legacy plugins and disable any that would make iTune 11 run in 32 bit mode. Then go to Applications, right click on iTunes and then click get info. Make sure 32-bit mode box is NOT checked. If it is uncheck it and try to sync. I followed these steps as i Had iToner on my system. The 32-bit box was checked. After deselecting it and starting iTunes all apps sync with no issue. I cannot find the link now but someone else did all the hard work and I am just passing it on. Hope it helps.

They must have fixed this because I didn't have to do anything on my work laptop, which is Win 7 x86, or my home PC, which is Win 7 x64. Seems to me the issue is resolved. All of my devices worked again, which is a relief because I take a lot of pics and download a ton of apps/music daily.

Thanks for the tip though. You must be using a Mac though huh?
