iTunes 11 "Last Played" and playcount not updating?

I am having a playback issue in iTunes 11 under Snow Leopard, OS 10.6.8. "Last Played" and playcount are not being updated after a track finishes playing. The culprit is "Up Next". Any song played while "Up Next" has a playlist queue will not have its "Last Played" or playcount data updated. But if you clear "Up Next" and let the song finish, then that data will be updated.

What an unfortunate bug. Smart lists rule my world, and they heavily count on "Last Played" and playcount to create constantly evolving playlists for me.

Anybody else having this problem with iTunes11? Got a solution?

Turning off crossfade works for me too. And leaving it off. If I turn it back on (mid song play) the playback count / last played date update properly for the current song, and the next song, but after that the problem comes back. Oh and I seem to need an iTunes restart for the fix to take effect.

Fidelio... I wonder if the bug is related to the dissappearance of "gapless playback". Just a guess from what you describe with the Beatles album playback you describe.

Anyhoo, a temporary fix is better than no fix at all.

I hope Apple re-test and issue an update quickly. For me Crossfade is definitely not the issue and the Up Next feature is what caused the problem so clearing up next provided an immediate fix. Thank you for that hint!!

Seems Apple didnt test the product adequately since songs played on ipod / nano / ipad do update their records correctly regardless. Also, to bring the play records up to date (I use dynamic playlists very heavily), I went through each song not updated and skipped to the last second. That caused the record to update correctly even with UpNext having a full list (before I read this chain). Seems the test engineer wouldnt spot the problem unless he played songs end to end.

Not being able to use UpNext is a nuisance since its a great great feature and much better than the old DJ for que jumping songs, but not updating LastPlayed is much much worse. Seriously looking forward to a proper fix for this very quickly from Apple.

Crossfade is a pretty big thing to make a mistake on for me. I use that all the time. My name can be added to the list of people that had the crossfade problem. I resolved it by turning off crossfade. I have to say I highly resent having to choose between crossfade and play count updates. Both of these items are top of the list of important features. I hope Apple fixes this very quickly.

Thanks to all for feedback. I turned cross fade (which was set as off - never use it, anyway) on and then off and playcount now working. I cannot understand why iTunes has now forced users, who had their lists set up to show Album Cover and also dated added, number of plays, and date last played, into preset fomat which do not suit the user - unless there is something I am missing? I note that Column Browser option is now greyed out. Hasd anyone out there found a way of personalising - or are we now stuck with the information iTunes wants us to view, irrespective of personal preference?
