iTunes 11 deletes newly added m4v and mp4 video files!

I'm really loathing the new iTunes for a number of reasons.. but this one really takes the cake!

When I try to add an M4V or MP4 video file, iTunes deletes the file and does not add it to the library!

I never had any issues with 10.7.. and seeing as there is no way of reverting back that I can find.. any help in how to solve this... or is this one of those wonder new "feature's" I now have to contend with?

Thanks

Hey RockRabbit;

I've been trying to figure this out too. I've been click-dragging some TV shows I downloaded via T*rrent (and converted to mp4) just now since I upgraded to iTunes 11. In the past I would click-drag to the Movies folder, then Command Info and change them to TV shows (with the pertinent name, season and episode info).

They're going in to the library, as I see them in the progress bar being inputted.

Yet they don't show up anywhere.

My previous shows are all there.

I have the same issue. My mpg4 videos which were previously in the library are still there. However, when I try and add new mpg4 videos to the library nothing happens. Have tried "add to library" from the file menu and drag and drop. Zero happens. Had no problem with the previous version of iTunes. Am running Win 7 64 bit. The mpg4 videos that are already in the library (via links) still work just fine. It is the effort to import new links that fails.

I eventually found the files in Home Videos and edited the info for the files and changed the media kind to TV Show. After a few minutes and for no discernable reason for the delay they moved to TV Shows and synced with IPad and Apple TV.

Don't care for the new ITunes Format but the functionality seems unchanged. Had me worried there for a couple of minutes...

Well I think this group has identified the bug in iTunes 11 and identified the "work around". The movies that I tried to import with "add file to library" were all placed into Home Videos. This group has discovered this peculiar behavior and I found it was happening to me. Sync onto the iPad was no problem as all forms of video show up on the sync window. So I can now do what I want--link videos from a file on my PC to iTunes and sync them onto the iPad. However, this plainly is a software bug in iTunes as the videos should not be placed in Home Videos but in the Movies library.

So Apple, please fix the bug.

Yep jkingston you nailed it.

The only issue now is how long it takes something like a TV show that I've downloaded (from T*rrents) to show up in the Home Movies folder. It sometimes takes 10 or 15 minutes.

Everything else seemed to clear up once I also updated the software on my AppleTV 3, and then I closed and opened iTunes again.

And seeing the old side bar again made things easier (View > Show Sidebar).

Are you frustrated that whether you drag and drop your video files to iTunes 11, or add video files from “Add files to Libray” or “Add folder to Libray”, nothing is imported even though the files are in iTunes 11 supported MP4, MOV or M4V video format.

If iTunes 11 won’t import MP4, MOV or M4V, first make sure your install QuickTime Player. Even though you hire VLC or Perian or any other media player to take care of your video playback instead of QuickTime, you still need to install QuickTime in order to add video to iTunes 11 for transfer to iPad, iPod, iPhone or Apple TV.

f you install QuickTime player but still can’t add MP4, MOV, M4V to iTunes 11, there is no other solution but to convert MP4, MOV, M4V to iTunes 11 supported video MP4.

Visit the Step-by-Step Guide on how to successfully import all kinds of MP4, MOV, M4V to iTunes 11

The guide also applies to import AVI, WMV, MKV, etc to iTunes 11.

What has become clear is that iTunes 11 DOES import m4v files etc perfectly.

What is confusing is that it now calls them "Home Movies" and files them there.

Simply going into the information and changing the type to Movie puts it back where we are used to seeing it after import.

It possibly makes sense the new way but it should be clearer to users.

No real problem after all and no need to download anything or convert anything!

I too can not import mp4 files. I have done all what has been mentioned in this disscusion like installed quick time and turning off settings in the STORE tab in preferences and then go to import folder to itunes. they start to load and then nothing apears. they do not show up in home videos or movies or even recently added. I know that sometimes it does work as ive imported some mp4 files before and they appear in home videos but im trying to do the very same thing with a new bunch of mp4s and they dont appear. I cant get me head around it.

Why hasnt the biggest company in the world (Apple) fixed this annoying problem. With All that money they make every day why cant they hire some great programmers to de bug iTunes.

PLease HELP HELP HELLP!

Thanks
