Does iPhone reset remove apple ID

I just erased and reset to factory settings our two iPhones because we got new 5's. I gave the phones away only to be told by a friend that the erase all content and settings doesn't remove the apple ID from the device. I argued that there is no way this fundamental mistake would still be present today after iPhone has been around for 5 years, but my friend said he is positive because he just reset a few phones. Please tell me this isn't true.

It isn't true. Erase all content and settings wipes the phone and returns it to it's out of the box condition.

Erase All Content and Settings erase the content on iPhone but the entry for iMessage, FaceTime and iCloud are not deleted on Apple server associated with the iPhone. It's all well if you still wants to use it yourself otherwise follow the methods for IOS 5 & above:

Wipe iPhone clean

There are a few steps to do:

Switch off iMessage in Settings > Messages

Switch off FaceTime in Settings > FaceTime

Delete iCloud in Settings > iCloud > Delete Account

Finally Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings.

Now you can sell/give.

You should also de-register the iPhone here
