Q: What are your thoughts on the New iTunes 11?

I for one am not very impressed! You lose cover flow, and the ability to resize your album art. Unlike previous versions where everything is not in just one area now your searching over the whole itunes for what you need to do. Its cluttered and instead of just editing one album your stuck at looking at all the other distractions instead of what your trying to edit. What are all of your thoughts on this new itunes?

I am not liking this update at all, as i can no longer work out how to add my own ringtones, or add a mp3 i just downloaded to my library or my ph. I also hate the new maps system, that seems to be linked to this version of itunes as well, as i wiped my iphone 3gs to give to my son, as have upgraded to iphone 5 and now it has no google maps, they bioth have apple maps! Finding things is a pain too. Thanks for the tip earlier in this thread for the side view though, thats a bit more familiar!

I really dont like the fact that Apple has become so money hungry at every turn. we have everything apple from pods to phones to pad to mac (7 in total) and now it just seems like they want to make money from everywhere. I had to buy a ringtone, because the std issue ones are crap, and i can no longer create my own, and paid $2.19 for it. I rally liked my grandmaster flash ringtown

This sort of behavour stops brand loyalty big time. Re-think your strategy Apple. Not . Happy.

I don't mind seeing CoverFlow go, as it's impractical for larger music libraries. But the problem is they also got rid of the grid view (with the exception of Albums, for some unspecified reason) and replaced it with an equally impractical (and uncustomizable) list view.

Looking in the TV shows section, I can see that the new design has potential, but it's wasted. The TV shows section is in grid view and when you click on a TV show you get the slide menu with links to all the seasons. This is exactly what should have been used in the Artist View (along with resizable cover art)— a slide menu for each artist containing links to each album. A much cleaner way to deal with a lot of music.

actually finally managed to drag the mp3, using the side bar iphone folder icon, and dragging from finder into there. Still refuses to read the ringtone as a ringtone though....

Fine but I hadn't seen you say anyone had a valid concern.  All I saw was you calling people whiners.  I am out of here.  I have 10 back and am happy.

Unfortunately I don't like it and had to go back for now.

I missed the optional artwork in the lower left when showing sidebar. I could have

    probably delt with that.

I missed iTunes DJ. I probably could have got Play Next to work as a reasonable substitute.

What kiiled it for me was the search feature. I was really hoping apple was finally going to put in a decent, fast, search function. I decided to see what I hade from the grateful dead in 1976. I typed "d" the pinwheel spun for awhile - finally i could type "ead 1976". Search found nothing! I know I have many things from the dead in 1976 (including many that have gratefule dead as artist, and 1976 in the album name.

    Maybe 11.2 will be better.

My biggest problem (at the moment): when I remove a song from a list while playing, the playback stops instead of skiping to the next song in line. Is this "feature" set or am I missing something in the options to turn this off?

As fas as the search function being dog slow, I've found that disabling (unchecking) the "search entire library" line improves search to at least iTunes 10 speed, which isn't great but a lot faster than 11 is by default.

After commentng here I am going to the feedback and lettting them know this was a bad move. 99.9% of comments here are negative. Now first thing i don't like is cover flow is gone. I loved cover flow. Next, like the feature known as launchpad this change was unecessary and as a design choice confusing. The only reason I can think they would move to this is because of lawsuits from other UI makers. For the  desktop/laptop this kind of UI is a screen real estate abuser. Its a TOUCH style interface you are trying to manage with a mouse. The smaller the resolution the worse it gets. I just ordered my 11 macbook air and feel this is going to be hard to manage. Its clunky and awkward.  Its horrible enough on the iPad. Why subject these beautiful computers to this. Also as an artist with my own album on iTunes I just don't like it and feel it could detract from the buying experience that iTunes is known for. I hope they are listening to us.

Why removing COVER FLOW and the GENIUS SIDE BAR....

I don't underdtand what was wrong with those features.

Since one year Apple is keeping on deceiving me each time they propose an upgrade or new product.

I love this brand and I think they are going to lose their modjo...

    It's too bad.

    G'day

I must say that I am not so negative about the new version, I think it's much nicer to use, especially the way that you can now view the contents of every album, much nicer than the previous version. However, in agreement to previous posts I am saddened that two of the most attractive and desirable features of the user interface have been thoughtlessly ommitted - the coverflow (which I always ran in fullscreen when playing music, especially at public events) and the ability to zoom covers in gridview to suit your own personal taste. I sorely miss those two features. Apple, bring them back...

    regards,

    David.
