Can anyone recommend a good alternative to iTunes?
Now there's a thought. That way, I could at least browse my own music the way I want to. So I guess iTunes 11 is a reason to buy less stuff through the store.
I guess this is a start: http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/10-mac-osx-music-player-altern-139519

Nov 30, 2012 11:24 AM in response to Stephen Coxby Wenchita,"Actually my problem isn't about new features. But features they took away. Mainly 3: Dj, Cover Flow and dark Grid View. I also liked the old way of searching. I have a 126GB size libaray. I also listen to classical a lot. The current search is almost useless for me.
Now i can get around the new search by using a 3rd party app. But the other 3 are just gone. I'd like to know why."
+1. Amen

Nov 30, 2012 11:25 AM in response to Porfby James Campbell,Try to start typing a word beginning with "a" in the search box. Is it just me or does anyone else get a spinning ball that never goes away?

Nov 30, 2012 11:29 AM in response to Alnydenby BopCat,My library is fine.
My phone and iPad sync'd fine.
All of my artwork is there.
search works fine.
No spinning balls.
I seriously don't know what you guiys are doig wrong.
And, no, there's no alternative that's remotely as good as iTunes.

Nov 30, 2012 11:43 AM in response to BopCatby William Fiveash,So tell me how to open a playlist in a new, independant window as version 10.7 and earlier supported?
This is I something use all the time and is a definite regression in v11.

Nov 30, 2012 11:39 AM in response to William Fiveashby abombaci,Best thing to do, if you haven't upgraded to 11 don't and if you did downgrade back to 10.7

Nov 30, 2012 11:40 AM in response to BopCatby Stephen Cox,Like I said it's what they took away. No DJ, no Cover Flow and no dark Grid View. And my conplaints about the search. But like I said, I already use a 3rd party app that does better searching for me.
Add back; DJ, Cover Flow and a dark color scheme and I'll happily upgrade.
What I don't understand is why take features away? What was so wrong with DJ? ****, Jobs introduced it (and Cover Flow) during a keynote.
Same thing the the artwork in the lower left. I didn't use it much; but why remove it?
And by the way, I did "downgrade". I rebuilt my system from a TM backup.

Nov 30, 2012 11:41 AM in response to Porfby LA Thomas,I spent countless hours finding album covers for my music that iTunes did not have and now I cant see them anymore becuase someone thought it was a good idea to get rid of cover flow....WHAT???? Not cool at all. Bring it back!!

Nov 30, 2012 11:41 AM in response to Porfby Mr. Eeee,iTunes 11 is just SO bad. I am distraught and so disappointed. There isn't ANYTHING that's better and a whole lot that's worse.
I can't believe they dropped coverflow and the little artwork viewer (on the bottom-left)! I even hate the album cover view that you do get when you select something under 'Albums'---why did they have to use the album background color??? It makes the cover look all washed out!
I guess the only choice I have is to revert my whole system from my backup (and lose 3 weeks worth of data!).
This is just SO messed up . . . how could they do this to us?!

Nov 30, 2012 11:49 AM in response to Mr. Eeeeby Bernard Knight,Overall I don't have a big problem with it. I quite like the revamped way of getting around although I had no gripes with 10.
But some of my albums have the first track split off as a sepate (but identical in every way) album. I've tried everything to solve this to no avail.

Nov 30, 2012 11:52 AM in response to William Fiveashby BopCat,Why you'd need to open a playlist in a new window is beyond me. Maybe they decided to omit totally useless redundant functions. Sorry about that.
Here's a suggestion for all of you who don't like iTunes 11, despite that it's a clear improvement. Go back to the previous version. Then quit whining. Problem solved.

Nov 30, 2012 11:54 AM in response to Bernard Knightby BopCat,Now that's a liilte more valid complaint, Bernard. I'll see if I can find the problem on my iTunes.
Cheers, Jim

Nov 30, 2012 12:05 PM in response to BopCatby Mac & Fromage,Have the devs discovered this thread now?
Because, you know...
"Why would anyone wanna do that!? It's beyond me. Totally redundant feature! It's fine, I tell you. Fine! Now quit whining."
Yeah, that seems to be the exact attitude that went into designing this so-called "upgrade." The sad thing is that I would have expected it from a Windows dev, and not from Apple.

Nov 30, 2012 11:55 AM in response to Porfby Alnyden,Just sent this to apple:
1). After installing and having my library updated, itunes would not function at all, it gave spinning beach ball, and crashed whole computer. I had to rebuild my library using the .xml file.
2). My apps disappeared from iTunes. I had to re-import from finder.
3). Half my album art does not show up in album view. The artwork is in the file! I n fact if I select "get info" and look at the artwork then it shows up in itunes. Am I supposed to manually do this for 600 albums?
4). iPhones are NOT showing up in devices anymore. I can sync with USB, but not wifi.
Great update, Apple! (not)

Nov 30, 2012 12:14 PM in response to Porfby Mike Connelly,Love it, works great here. A couple small things I'm not happy about but hopefully they'll be addressed, and for me they're totally outweighed by the new functionality and improved performance.
I guess I never used cover flow, it looked cool but I never found it useful.
