[snip] ... Easy sorting on columns: sure, let's break with 26 years of tradition. Dumb dumb dumb.

Moving songs from iTunes to mobile device: it's been getting more and more complicated and harder and this breaks the case. I used to be able to move songs from multiple albums into a new playlist easy. Can't do that now. Have to move one album, then the next then the next. Why make it more difficult?

I'm not sure how sorting columns, creating Playlists and moving media to iDevices is any different than it used to be. They way I did things previously still works pretty much the same now with iTunes 11 (with the Sidebar active). Actually, connecting with my devices and syncing via wi-fi is better now, at least for me. Just so I can learn something (I still have 10.7 running on my main music system), what kind of sorting and syncing doesn't work any more? I'd be more than happy with iTunes 11 if it simply had Cover Flow available as an option. (Which is not to say it doesn't have issues that ought to be corrected.)

A little edit... sorting actually works, just uses a different approach.

In Album view, click on an album and try to delete a track. Can you do it? I can't. How are you supposed to delete tracks??!

You can't!  You have to follow the arrow "Go to SONG TITLE" which takes you to song view, then delete the song.  Then if you want to return where you were in album view, you return to album view but it takes you back to the top, not to the same place in the list.  It's a major pain!  This is just one of many examples of little things that are wrong with Itunes 11, aside from the big stuff.  People with larger libraries will find the changes much more troubling.

Indeed!!!  This make working in the new iTunes very tedious now

that that they no longer allow multiple windows.

The single window/pane paradigm works fine when on a phone or

some other screen size limited device but is a big fail on a real

    computer!!!

I downloaded version 11 the day it was released and I've given myself plenty of time to get used to it before commenting. Having said that, I am very disappointed in this release. I used to be perfectly happy with iTunes as my digital music player/organizer, but now I'm looking for something else.

    • The biggest headache for me is performance -- I have a mid-2011 iMac with 12 Gb of RAM and iTunes 11 is dog slow -- I also get the dreaded spinning beach ball frequently and it seems to pop up on everything I try to do.

    • When I add music, sometimes it shows up immediately in my library, sometimes it shows up after a few minutes, and sometimes it takes ten, 15, 20 minutes -- or who knows how long because I get frustrated and walk away from the computer -- to show up.

    • I actually liked cover flow and was stumped as to why they removed it. I also sorely miss the album view that allowed me to sort my albums by download date and see the album artwork -- that was my default view and I hate that it's gone.

    • I don't use iCloud -- at least for music -- and don't care about it, but see iCloud icons and references everywhere -- let me turn off anything to do with iCloud to simplify and declutter my view.

    • I can't open mutlple windows anymore -- what in the world was the logic behind removing that feature?

    • Lots of other smaller annoyances that others have mentioned as well.

Those of us with large music libraries develop a workflow for organizing and editing our music files -- iTunes 11 completely disrupts my workflow and after a couple of weeks, I haven't yet been able to come up with a modified workflow that fits my needs. Granted, I have a larger-than-usual music library (nearly 70,000 tracks), so I understand that I exceed benchmark levels for the application, but everything I complain about worked fine in the older version...

The default load sacrafices a bit of realestate in the left scroll to stay in the tradition of the OS UI. This also gives everyone all the sorts and coverflow as an option (in views)

    Default.jpg

Here is the albums view with the sort as (album by artist). This would also be able to be left as grid as default. In this view the second scroll seems useful. Same page for Genere, Artist, Match ???

I have a few basic observations about iTunes 11 and plan to provide feedback on each to Apple before too long.  I have a large iTunes library (nearly 80k tracks and growing constantly) that has been meticulously curated with album/single artwork, comments, and ratings for each item.  I've been reluctant to upgrade to iTunes 11 before I've had a chance to take it for a "test drive" of sorts.  I've done this by upgrading to iTunes 11 on my MacBook Pro, which does not house my iTunes library, and then sharing my master library from my iMac with the laptop. Doing this, I've been able to play around with iTunes 11 without actually having to convert my master library.  I'm sure these items have been pointed out before, but for me, I find iTunes 11 to be an improvement in certain ways but there are a few problems with it that will make it impossible for me to use until they are remedied.

    Critical problems:

    1) The Songs view does not group tracks into album/single releases and cannot display album artwork, album artist, and album ratings as the old Songs/List view did in iTunes 10 and previous versions.  This is a deal killer for me.  The Artists view is nice, but has some problems of its own (see below), including that the columns cannot be customized to show additional information such as the track number, year, number of plays, and comments for each song on an album.  The old Songs/List view, customized to my preferences, is the only view I ever used for iTunes, and now for some reason it seems to be one of the two views they have removed in the new version (the other being Cover Flow, which I never used due to the large size of my library, and therefore do not miss).

    2) Compilations are treated differently in iTunes 11, as far as I can tell.  Under the new Artists view, songs by a given artist that appear on multiple artist compilation albums (such as movie soundtracks) do not appear under the artist, but instead under "Various Artists".  In the old Songs/List view, this was not the case -- such tracks were listed under the recording artist for each track.  In addition, for some reason, where I only have a single track from a Various Artists release, the name of the track artist does not even display under the album entry within the Artists view.  Since there is no track artist called "Various Artists" (this can only be an album artist), this is not very helpful as there is no way of telling who the track is by when viewed in Artists view.

    3) The gapless setting seems to have been removed.  I routinely have checked all of my complete albums as "gapless playback" in iTunes 10 so that each album will play continuously as it does on CD.  In iTunes 11, this feature seems to have gone missing for some reason.

I am not going to update my master iTunes library to iTunes 11 until item #1 above is remedied, at a minimum. I can probably develop workarounds for the others, but I am hoping that Apple will issue an updated version that will address each of these.

theres a way to make it look like itunes 10

iTunes > On the left corner press that small button > Press " Show menu bar" > Press "View" > Press " Show status Bar > Press " Show Sidebar"

    hope this works!!! =)

Not true. I didn't realize this myself until I read a few reviews of iTunes 11. Apparently the Gapless tag had nothing to do with enabling Gapless Playback, in spite of the name; all it did was prevent crossfading from track to track on gapless albums (if you had the Crossfade option checked in Preferences). This is all handled automatically now, as it should have been all along. In other words, iTunes 11 corrected a long-running stupidity of previous iTunes versions. I can confirm that gapless albums still play properly in iTunes 11.

All I care about is getting Cover Flow back. Everything else is a something I can live with.

    @tummyauto

How did you get the album, artist, song tabs to show up in the side bar?

I cannot get iTunes 11 to resemble your screenshot. Does the full screen function of that 'flow' work?

I was assuming that those "screenshots" from tummyauto are Photoshop mockups of what iTunes 11 would look like with a couple of features (like Cover Flow) restored. Those views are impossible as iTunes stands now, right?

So, is it a joke or not?

iTunes 11.2 release preview UI corrections & coverflow

I for one could live these if the are in the works.

I still want voting that was apart of iTunes DJ

"I also get the dreaded spinning beachball fequently..."  Yes!  not happy someone

else is having that problem, but relieved that it's not just me. Also, the issue of

newly purchased music from the iTunes store dowloaded but not always showing

up in my library right away. This is of major concern since I'm a professional mobile

DJ and quite often I have to purchase and dowload requested music that I don't

happen to have, on the fly, and hopefully have it available to play quickly. Now

sometimes I'm having to go back to the store and re-download them. As a DJ I

spend an enormous amount of money each year buying music thru iTunes. To me

as a customer, this kind of performance is UNACCEPTABLE!!!

I've been reading a tremendous amount of negative comments on this site for the last

few days. Hopefully the powers that be will read some of these comments and actually

care enough to do something about it. Like I previous said, "If it ain't broke don't fix it".

Well now some so called "Apple Genius" has broken it.....So Will Someone Please Now FIX IT!!!
