IR Remote not working with iMac

Remote operates our Apple TV and my wifes iMac (2011). Doesn't operate my iMac (2012). I have no clue. Anyone got any ideas?

Good suggestions, all. But I already did them to no avail. In messing around I discovered that the remote signal was being picked up by the computer when an app started after pressing one of the buttons (other than the volume button, which was what I was trying to use). A bit more investigating revealed that a recently installed app called "Plex", billed as a replacement for the now deceased FrontRow was the cause, apparantly capturing all the remote signals and not passing them to the OS.

2012 iMacs no longer have IR technology, sensor/receiver.

If you want to control your new 2012 iMac remotely.

If you own an iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad.

Here's an app

if you own an iPad and want to complete remote control your entire Mac, check out this on the App Store on your iPad.
