Which iphone 5 model is sold unlocked in Apple Stores in US? A1428 or A1429?

From today Apple released unlocked iphone 5 for sell in Apple Stores without a contract. Do you know if it sells A1428 or A1429? Or maybe both? Thanks.

Just buy Off contract Verizon A1249 (CDMA model) at any Apple store. The phone support both GSM/CDMA network and it comes pre-unlcok if you buy without contract so it will work on any GSM network. It also cover all the LTE bands as the A1249 (GSM model) sold internationally.

Keep in mind only Apple store sell Verizon off contract phones. Verizon stores won't sell you one.

So now in Apple Stores one can buy either the off contract verizon A1429 or the off contract A1428 right? However in Apple.com one can buy only the off contract A1428? I am obviously interested in the A1429, but i didnt see it as a buy option in the apple site. So the order must be done from Apple Store and not from Apple.com for the A1429 verizon off contract? What about availability and shipment times? Thnx a lot in advance my friend!

so i dont see a reason it wont work in europe.

Then buy it & have at it. Apple exerts strict control over LTE & what carriers/models are supported. A carrier can't just turn LTE on & have the iPhone automatically support it. Apple tests themselves before they permit the phone to connect/use LTE. They have designed the CDMA A1429 model, sold in the states, to only support LTE in North America, at the present time. It's your money, so if you want to give it a go, have at it, but don't come back here complaining if you don't get LTE in Europe. There is a model, sold in Europe, that supports LTE in Europe. Why you don't just purchase that model, officially unlocked, escapes me. Not only will you be assured that your phone supports LTE where you live & intend on using the phone, your warranty/support will be EU wide, if purchased in any EU country.

Hi, need some help guys. My sister recently got me an unlocked iPhone 5 from the US. Model number a1428. She was told that this is a factory unlocked version. She got it to me in India and it doesn't seem to work with the carriers here. I took it to the apple store here and they said that it's under a Contract with AT&T. If its factory unlocked how can it be under a contract and why wouldn't it work in India? Please help. Thanks.

Try pluging the phone into the computer open iTune and hit restore. If it is an off contract AT&T phone then you need to do this step in order to unlock. Make sure the AT&T sim card is in the phone. Once the restore is complete iTune screen should show " Congratulations, your iphone has been unlock"

I bought one of my iPhone 5 (AT&T version) off contract before the unlock version came out and this was what I did to have it unlock.

If this does not work then you should ask your sister to check with the Apple store where she bought the phone from and make sure it is unlcok or you might need to contact AT&T with the IMEI number.

Good luck!
