Q: Portability

I have an iPhone 4 bought from Tigo Paraguay. Now we are having the possibility to change our carrier keeping the same telephone number, but my phone is locked. How do I open it?

iPhone 4, iOS 6.0.1, Baseband 04.12.02

Unlocking of iPhone 4 is handled by the Carrier that the iPhone was originally made for (Original Carrier). You must contact this Carrier and request your iPhone to be Unlocked. If they approve and grant your request, then next step is to just Restore the iPhone with iTunes on Computer and it will be Unlocked. Apple does not Unlock previously Locked iPhones, you have to contact Original Cell Phone Carrier.

No one here can help you.

If the original carrier can not or will not unlock the device, there is nothing that can be done.

    Not all carriers offer unlocking.

I was asking about unlocking my iphone because I want to change my carrier. We are having portability now in Paraguay and is natural that I could decide which service is better.

I asked about this and everybody was upset and Administrator even remove my post. I am an Apple fan, always used my devices decently never jailbreak or nothing illegal.

I pay very expensive rates to get my iPhone 4 two years ago and I really like it. Now I want to use it for a new carrier, but NO ONE wants to help me.

Please dont disappoint me Apple. Help me contacting Tigo Paraguay and ask then to unlock every iPhone they sold!

    Thank you!

Apple has nothing to do with a carriers decision to unlock the device or not.

Only the carrier makes that decision.  You can contact your local government and encourage them to require carriers to unlock devices, that's it though.

Phone number portability has nothing to do with unlocking of devices.  Number portability simply allows for transferring of a phone number from one carrier to another or from land line to cellular (or reverse).
