Ipod classic won't sync

my 80gb ipod classic was having some battery life issues, so i restored it in hopes of fixing that issue. now when i plug it in, iTunes 11 will recognize that its connected, and if i press sync, iTunes will say "syncing "users ipod"- starting sync. however it only shows for a split second before it goes back to showing what is now playing. none of the music actually syncs to my ipod, and there are no error messages to tell me what is wrong. i have the ipod upadted to latest version, 1.1.2
