I agree completely. I want to be able to see the album artof a selected song, or of the playing song, and NOT as either a very tiny icon in the top bar of the window or a modal window floating over everything else in order to do so. I am so far not impressed with the "advances" of iTunes 11, and (so far) wish I had not upgraded.

I also miss the ability to show any playlist in album view, with album icons. The new way does not meet my needs.

There is still no artwork when in "songs" mode or in "playlists" mode. I'm finally getting used to not having cover flow, sort of. The new way of viewing albums is superb and by artist is decent but you have to be able to see art for single tracks andbe able to browse in that fashion as well. I don't think Steve would have let this go, unfinished as it is......'-)

This is actually not accurate. You do not have to switch to the Artists tab to view artwork. When in the Playlist tab, there is a "View" pull down in the upper right corner of the screen. Click on it and select "Artist List" to change the view (similar to the format of the Artists tab mind you) to view the track artwork.

Take note that the "artist list" on the left side is like a side anchored column browser but the artwork shown here is not for the current album in the playlist, just the first cover iTunes finds under each particular artist (like in the Artist tab). (And another goofy design decision IMHO, why show artwork here at all?). The actually album/track artwork is on the playlist side. You also can't enable the full column browser in this view as it's tied to the default "List" view.

I don't necessarily prefer this new approch but wanted to clarify for others.

When is a database not a database? When it is an operating system. iTunes 10 was slow, quirky, and didn’t offer the functionality of the likes of Spotify, but it was serviceable. So what is iTunes11? Well it appears to have copied the look of the Songbird interface, icons are replaced by lists, and the ability to show album covers with genres is now limited. The iTunes store gets a massive push, and it’s difficult to use the programme without iTunes Store popping up. However, before you can explore these “joys”, you need to rebuild your library, which the update program trashed. Then you need to start correcting all of the music and video descriptions. As this is days of work, and so you ask the question “How do I get rid of iTunes11?” Apple’s answers is “You can’t because it’s not a database, it’s an operating system”. Come back Microsoft all is forgiven.

I wish there was a way to display album artwork in the 'Songs' viewmode. I input record label info and other stuff under 'Comments'; I also use bit rate, genre, rating, disc number and none of this info shows up in the 'Album' or 'Artist' view mode. If albums were displayed in 'Songs' viewmode I would have all the info in one place.

Also, if I'm viewing in 'Songs' mode ... and switch over to 'Albums' the screen scrolls to the top instead of staying on the same artist. Vice versa if on 'Albums' mode.

Also, I'm used to the standard sidebar in iTunes. When viewing in 'Album' or 'Artist' view modes having the standard sidebar along with the new artist sidebar is clunky.

It's frustrating to not be able to see all the info in one place. It's the worst side of my left-brain but It's nice to see on the screen.
