itunes does suck, agreed.  there are other players out there, which may be better.  the problem is apple seems to have a lock on the 'store and buying music.   which I can't access anyway now,  (error -1202)  when trying to access the store, which is a blank white screen.  had the same problem on another computer, which I thought I had solved after reinstalling about 4 times.   Now all of a sudden this computer is doing it.   ugh.   apple... now working harder than ever to be crappier than microsoft.

i should use this as a prime example in the quality management course I teach at university.

No, you are not the only one.  It's a pile.  I just tried to go buy a song and I couldn't.  I'm stuck in downloading "Genius" results.  This kills me.  If it is so Genius why does it take so long?  I go buy a song on Play - BAM - I'm in business.  I had it with this crap.  I get so sick of waiting for the stupid Genius to finish profiling me that I open task manager and kill it.

I can't stand it. Hopefully Apple takes note of users who are this sick of their problems.

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash

Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping.  Note that in iTunes 11 an "empty" library may show your past purchases with links to stream or download them.

In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.

    RestorePrevious.png

Alternatively, depending on exactly when and why the library went missing, there may be a more recent .tmp file in the main iTunes folder that can be renamed as iTunes Library.itl to restore the library to a recent state.

See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.

When you get it all working make a backup!

Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

I've noticed more of these missing library posts of late and a common factor since I started asking is AVG Anti-Virus. It seems it might be at least part of the reason why the library file disappears. Try excluding the iTunes folder from any real-time scanning process.

I can understand your frustration with the new iTunes, but I'm still overall a very happy Apple customer. I can't imagine going back to Microsoft or-heaven forbid-anything-Google-oh Dell-that was always a winner-NOT. !. I love Apple products and customer support. Just cause iTunes upgrade ***** (at the moment) doesn't mean I-or most people are going to abandon ship.I absolutely detest Amazon's Cloud-so no comparison there ether. I-Tunes will be fixed eventually. It's really not that big a deal. I just wanted to chime in on the original topic of disliking the new Itunes "upgrade". And yes! I do hate the new i-Tunes I think most of us agree it's a mess. But as for Apple-still number one in my book.

I tried doing it the way you reckomended but it didn't work. so i went to the itunes media folder and copied the music folder into the automatically add to itunes folder and i got my music back and it works. it was a pain in the butt and i figured it out. That should have had to take almost 2 hours.

cargot? did you ever envisage this thread taking off like it has?

with all the sh*t that people have had to deal with itunes and apple, its kinda ironic that my one year old son decided this morning that it would be a good idea to drop my iphone5 into the toilet!

its not completely buggered, but im hoping the bowl of rice trick might dry it out.

    Hello everyone,

I sure do feel incredibly frustrated with iTunes.

I was wondering if anyone could help me with something to do with my original library.

You see, once I've uploaded my library onto iTunes, the original files seem to be missing from my PC folder. And yet, they must be somewhere there, for the volume is huge when I press to see properties of that folder. However, the files I can see are only pictures and old not working playlists from VLC... Any idea how I may be able to see my music files on my original PC music folder so I can use them with a different application too?

    Many thanks,

    Gwen

The new iTunes is typical Apple. Hide everything and show the least. It's been quite the adventure looking for all the things that used to be obvious. The new interface is 'prettier', but less functional for my use. What a sad state of affairs for Apple. Progress for the sake of progress and the ignorance of usability.

i had over 8,000 songs and today I have 4,856 where did they go?  I can't put one song in a FAV then to another..  And like you say ...  I open i-tunes on my laptop and Genius starts and won't let me cancel?  it goes on and on; what is Genius doing anyway?  I signed for 'cloud' but how do I get to it?  It seems like Genius wants to manage MY music and like you said getting to the 'store' .... hells bells!  it won't let me do until Genius is done (taking my songs?>>)  Other than about 30 songs I OWN all the CD's... took me weeks to load.  I'm afraid to sync my ipod to it now.  Please i-tunes fix this soon.

85 pages of comments and nowt from the lads at Cupertino. In a few months they will wheel out an Iphone that has six layers of icons, say it's a huge improvement and sit back and wait for all the fanboys to buy it. I've just had a play with a Galaxy IV. Fast, great features, you can upgrade the memory yourself and - best of all - no itunes. Only a few months until my contracts up. . . . Descisions descisions.
