Can't get much worse though! It's as bad as it gets...from here on things can only improve...I hope!

They apparently fixed (again) a problem with printing jewel case inserts.  Don't know any other details.  See link below to discussion on THAT problem.  In release 11.0.1.12 it worked fine. The next release it didn't.  The comments on the discussion below indicate they have fixed it.  Like you I'm so gunshy about their new releases I may not do another one without checking these discussions closely.

I consider myself an advanced user. I've had iTunes as my main music playback software for many years since about 2004-2005. It was a fantastic program and the updates were timely with nice new features and bugs always being corrected. I always updated to the latest version. In fact I really looked forward to getting these ugrades! Not so anymore.

This 11.x version is just simply terrible, the past 113 pages of hate will explain why.

I don't precisely know why or how or what Apple did internally to themselves that is making iTunes such a nasty and difficult product to use.

One thing is for certain. I'll never ever EVER upgrade again without having read a thorough review or gone through some message forums. At the least. More ideally I'm going to have to test it out on a virtual machine or another "test rig" type of computer and evaluate it myself. Something that won't mess up my library and style of working. Jeeze sounds like handling beta software or mal-ware. Well..

In the meantime I'm sticking with iTunes 9. If that precludes me from advancing in other areas of tech like the iPhone or the latest iPods. Well then. So be it. Plenty of other devices to pick from.

Now I'm happy to reconsider these decisions if and when Apple can put iTunes back to the way it was before.

    I agree with your comments.

I saw Jon Stewart make fun of Apple a few nights ago. Tim Cook made suggestions to simplify the tax code at the senate hearings related to Apple's tax evasion tactics and then went on saying that Apple's philosophy is simplicity (the punchline of course was the license agreement).

I'm wondering if Steve Jobs was willing to sacrifice some simplicity for better usability and kept things from completely becoming useless. There's a unix fortune that applies so well in this case:

Every program has at least one bug and can be shortened by at least one

instruction -- from which, by induction, one can deduce that every

program can be reduced to one instruction which doesn't work.

Somehow I wonder how much "simpler" version 12 will be..... playlists? regular vs smart are too confusing to uses, so let's trim that back a bit and take out the smart playlists.........

I was slightly impressed version 11.0.3 didn't forget which songs were selected in each playlist when you went from playlist to playlist, but it took me many clicks with definite failure to communicate with itunes to figure out that the huge shuffle icon in the playlist window does not actually control the shuffle but rather, it starts playing the currently selected playlist with shuffle turned on. If toggling shuffling is the goal, it's the tiny shuffle icon in the play section that has to be selected (the one that almost seems to want to hide itself behind the other much bigger doppelganger). A new user can very easily get confused as to what control is supposed to do what and might never get the hang of shuffling.

After I saw the tiny shuffle icon in the player control, and experimented with it a few times I eventually figured out what it wanted from me but, 'cmon...... how is THAT supposed to is simpler? Let's create a UX with 20 or 30 controls that do separate things and they all look alike... and let's make it a "where's Waldo" game.

Oh and by the way, it also seems like all things (playlists, the "up next" thing, etc) feed a temporary "currently playing" playlist (I haven't tried this but playing a regular playlist then start editing it while it's playing might play the original through, not the one currently being modified???), so the song shuffle setting still does not appear to be associated with specific playlists but rather that temporary adhoc playlist.... an explanation for why the shuffle setting is no longer controlled by specific playlists.

How hard is it to use this?

Ya im done with apple. I thought that the previous version was very easy to use and let you have 20 times more controll over settings.  If it wasnt for this huge downgrade in itunes I would have stuck with the Iphone, but i can tell you now, once my phone contract is over im going to get something else.  Why would they do this, its unbelieveable.

No, you are not alone. I hate it to the gut. It is music-centric, not intuitive. It's the reason why I'm staying away from iPhone. it is not a surprised to see Googling "itune is a piece of sh%t" would return thousand of hits.

I'm so happy to say that I have just bought a Samsung phone.

Googling Samsung is a piece of **** brings 381,000 hits. Be happy.

    itunesgoogle.jpg

    and umm:

    applegoogle.jpg

I think Apple wins this one Csound1...

Well I cannot delete my account and I have been keeping a lazy eye on this thread....the first thing I do have to say is my new Samsung Galaxy S4 rocks!!!! It plays flash! It can take a memory card! I can transfer files with it's bluetooth out-of-the-box. It is fast and reliable and easy to use. So thanks Apple for driving me to try an alternative.

This thread has proved one thing. Despite a very few individuals who persist in countering the very large majority of unhappy iTunes campers with work-arounds and solutions the fact remains - this is an unintuitive release of what used to be the worlds favorite software. No previous release has ever generated such intense dislike on this forum. In this day and age people are not interested in digging deep to find what they want. The manual gets tossed with the packaging... right from the start an application needs to be user-friendly enough to get the majority of functionality done. Then you can go digging or googling for the extra-complicated stuff. And this is precisely where this version of iTunes fails dismally - your average user struggles.

Lets spend a moment and push a little further with Csound1's google experiment which is actually not worth much unless made specific. Lets sharpen it up a bit.

Type this into google and include the inverted commas which forces google to only show the actual results of the phrase used just like that:

"I hate itunes 9" yields a whole wopping 9 results and has existed for 1356 days

"I hate itunes 10" yields 25,000 results and has existed for 983 days

"I hate itunes 11" yields 16,600 results but has only existed for 182 days

When we substitute Csound1's google example in there it really highlights just how much this release has not charmed the public:

"itunes 9 is a piece of xxxx" yields not a single result on all of google

"itunes 10 is a piece of xxxx" yields just one result

"itunes 11 is a piece of xxxx" yields 1,040 results

Now I will not waste the readers time further by delving into the .x release such as 10.7 but if you are bored and throw them into the same specified search things really hot up for v11.0.x yielding big numbers in the tens of thousands...while v9.x and 10.x barely feature a handful.

    You do the math...

Samsung would have had more but there are very few customers.

hahahaha you do make me laugh, at least that is SOMETHING you give me. Ok now I have wiped the tears away I must point out the obvious - my response is not about samsung vs apple - that was an equally silly dig at your {self-edited] samsung google experiment. And again while the facts of ALL the independent 2012 global sales studies (e.g. IDC) show a massive growth for Android and specifically Samsung outselling Apple last year that is also not my point or that of this thread. My point is very specifically about the public's loathing for the v11 release of iTunes. You have spent a lot of time responding to a lot of posts, and indeed occasionally actually helping people with work-arounds and advice. But the fact of the matter is the title of this thread is "

Am I the only one to HATE the new iTunes?!

And so the answer is a clear resounding NO. The poster is in VERY good company when he asks that question. So enough with the inane responses like your last one - focus on the thread. Did you re-read what you said before you posted? tsk tsk...where's a moderator when you need one...

You're the one posting about Android and Samsung, replying to those who were not addressing you, and yet ......

But that's normal for Droid users.

20000+ all earned occasionally, how long did it take you to get up to zero?

Yup - as you said I had the courage to stand behind my convictions and switch to Android as a solution. I purchased my first Apple computer in the early 1980's and have been an Apple supporter for way longer then it took you to garner your 20k+ points.

If you wish to use that malware ridden, insecure junk that is Android, go ahead. And don't tell the moderators what to do, they will ignore you.
