What the H*ll is Apple doing? ios 7 and itunes 11 has effectively given us windows-like interfaces, practically complete with submenus and complex searching all wrapped up in android-like displays.... THE VERY THING that made me trash my old Samsung Blackjack when the original iphone 2G was rolled out. Since then, I haven't looked back... until now. What's the point in owning/using Apple products when there's no "Magic" to them (as S. Jobs would say). Whats the point when half your apps shut down mid-use inexplicably, when Maps cant figure out what street Im on or how to auto re-route to avoid busy streets, what's the point when you cant watch content YOU PURCHASED on iTunes to play on its very own updated Software platform? Your loosing it Apple... In your own words... "Technology is at its best/most empowering when it simply disappears". We are on the forefront of how handheld devices can become the portal to managing life easily and simplistically. No cool hardware features will matter if you cant make your sotfware intuative, fluid and effortless. Make me want to stand in line again for your new products! Bring back the Magic!

    It is beyond awful...

It makes even simple things so cumbersome like adding something to a new playlist for example.

It has the add to pop out menu, but no "add to new playlist"

And having to deal with icons is so annoying.

Jobs is dead, the Apple we knew is probaby gone.

Jobs would have hated on this and prevented it from being released.

Drag the songs and the playlists will pop up on the right.

or simply ctrl S to turn on the sidebar as it was in iTunes previous to 11.

How do you insert a track into the middle (or at the beginning) of a lengthy playlist? Doing what you say puts the track at the end.

Select the playlist, click the first column with the numbers then drag songs up//down.

Indeed, you are able to change the play order of a static playlist after-the-fact.

In 10.7 you could open a second window and drag & drop the song you wanted wherever you wanted in the playlist (in the other window)... One step.

You can still do it in 11.1, but you need to:

1 - drag & drop the song from your library into the playlist if you have the sidebar on (or right-click -> add to playlist -> your playlist)

2 - go to your playlist (in list view mode)

3- scroll to the bottom (some playlists might be fairly long, a lot are more than one screen long, which only shows about 30-35 songs or so, at least on my screen)

4 - drag the files back up to where you wanted them

Depending how many songs you added, how many songs were there already, how far you want to spread them out, the new way to do it could get time consuming.

Like a lot of other things in version 11, it's still possible to do most things, only, it seems to become a full time job to do it.

Not quite so elegant as multiple iTunes windows but try this...

    1. Locate a file that you want to add to a playlist
    2. Right-click on it and click Show in Windows Explorer
    3. Locate the playlist you want to add to (sorted on play order)
    4. Scroll to the correct point in the list
    5. Drag & drop the song from Windows Explorer into the correct location

I suppose it wouldn't be quite so un-elegant as that for those who let itunes manage their library (like I do).

I know the artists' albums I own quite well and most are non various artist compilations, so navigating through windows explorer is easy enough for the most part.

Compilations wouldn't be quite as much fun given some of the album names, but otherwise, it does seem to work, just not particularly fast, compared to the in-app drag & drop.

Would this work for new files as well? (add a new album to playlist and itunes would add it to the music library at the same time)
