    Music > Internet Radio

Enable in preferences if you don't see it.

No you're not the only one. But I think being forced to use a piece of software just to put music on your device is really a bad idea. Not to mention bad software design.

My old cell phone was a Samsung Juke. When I hooked it to my computer it opened up like a window or folder on my computer.

I could select any or all of the songs and remove them or not. I could drag and drop mp3 files to my phone one at a time 20 at a time, it didn't matter. Apple needs to wise up and smell the roses.

    @tt2 thanks for the infos.

of course, i DO have a new/bigger harddisk that backs up my 1,5 TB of data daily. unfortunately i didn't delete the content on the old ext. harddisk.

i didn't know that there is an album artwork folder at all... - but i only compared the folder "itunes music", and the album artwork is not in there.

but the podcasts folder was it - i had deleted about 80GB of podcasts in the meantime. so that's why there's such a discrepancy.

anyway, i still don't understand why it is not possible to store the files/songs in ONE folder flat and then do the tagging and sorting only in the itunes database. the worst thing is the "compilations" folder that obviously produced many duplicates back then. actually i don't want to be worried if i have lost data when i update to a newer itunes version, but somehow i can't trust those new apple software versions any longer since i read so many complaints about data loss.

but if you tell me that there was no data loss (except for the podcasts) when upgrading to itunes 11, i can certainly delete the content of my old disk. i need space urgently, because on my macbook pro i have only left 16GB of free space, and i can't add any more photos to iphoto. iphoto is even worse than itunes regarding the file handling (originals, edited, tons of duplicates etc.). as a semi-pro photographer and hobby DJ i do have many files to handle in iphoto/itunes... for itunes there's no better alternative, for the photos i had aperture once, but it made my mac so slow that i sold it and went back to iphoto - which got worse and incredibly slow, and it's not scalable like many of the apple software btw. (i found a tool called iphoto library manager which i want to use to split the libraries by year so i can easily move them around from and to available disk space).

anyway, i try to clean up my tens of thousands of files somehow... and i'm waiting for a state of the art file system that allows me to handle them properly and without losing so much time... for ilife products this would be a great relief for people with huge legacies...

Not my thread title. I quite like iTunes 11.

Still miss cover flow a bit, and the vertical column browser, and the now playing artwork panel, but nothing that I can't live without. FWIW I agree that it would be nice if it were easier to extract media from an Apple device, but manually managing content on a device in Windows Explorer in much less efficent than syncing with a selection of automatically and/or manually updated playlists.

Didn't click you have a Mac. My backup tip is for Windows though I believe Carbon Copy Cloner does something similar. One advantage of not using a completely automated process is that I get to see which files are going to be added, updated, or deleted during the backup. After installing iTunes 11.1 I spotted from the preview of suggested operation that it was going to remove some 1,200 podcast episodes from the backup set so I was able to cancel, restore the lost files and also the pre-upgrade database so that in the end I lost no files. A completely automated process might well have not flagged it up as a problem.

FWIW I think the iTunes folder structure is generally pretty sensible, though on Windows it has an annoying 40 character file/folder name limit. 50,000 files in a flat folder would be unwieldy!

Hey thanks for the internet radio tip turingtest2.  I completely missed it when I look at the preferences and it sure saves time locating stations.

Where can I find the old radio? I can't seem to find it!!!!  Thanks!

    iTunes prefs > General.

    Tick Internet radio then OK.

Select Music then click Internet at top of iTunes.

Hmm, that one has been moved around/renamed to make way for iTunes Radio.

As to other changes, I guess that's how it goes.

and another question to you, tt2: don't you miss the multiple windows feature? i completely stopped buying songs in itunes for that reason because i can't have my playlists open while i'm browsing the store. that's a bummer!!

next question: why do i have to activate "show album artwork" for every playlist separately? is there a possibility to show or hide it over all the playlists?

    I HATE ITUNES 11!!!! IT'S SO UNINTUITIVE!!!!

No, but I rarely, if ever, used that feature. In fact I think it annoyed me when a secondary window would pop-up unbidden which I was switching between playlists. I can always check my media folder in Windows Explorer while I'm viewing the store, and Amazon in a web browser in case they have the same thing cheaper.
