try this link for info on fixing the library file issue you describe.

...ok, I've been in denial: I'll just have to downgrade now. I went to play a particular album by an artist - of whom i have two in the library - but iTunes is only showing 1.
I go to the library, and the album I'm looking for is actually there, but iT 11 isn't seeing it, so I re-import it. How many more are there like this ?
So, for the non-technical amongst us, what is the best way to cleanly un-install iT 11 ? Using control panel in W7 Professional ? I'm witless scared I'll delete or lose my library or some other key thing. Or, worse, not cleanly uninstall iT 11 and run into issues when I re-install iT 10.6

I love the new version of Grid view but some of the other changes feel like they still need some fine tuning. And I miss cover flow even if I didn't use it that often...
You can restore much of the look & feel of the previous version with these shortcuts:
- Ctrl+B to turn on the menu bar
- Ctrl+S to turn on the sidebar
- Ctrl+/ to turn on the status bar
- Click the magnifying glass top right and untick Search Entire Library to restore the old search behaviour
- Use View > Hide <Media Kind> in the cloud or Edit > Preferences > Store and untick Show iTunes in the cloud purchases to hide the cloud items. The second method eliminates the cloud status column (and may let iTunes start up more quickly)
Should you still feel the need to roll back to iTunes 10.7 first download a copy of the 32 bit installer or 64 bit installer as appropriate, uninstall iTunes and suppporting software, i.e. Apple Application Support & Apple Mobile Device Support. Reboot. Restore the pre-upgrade version of your library database as per the diagram below, then install iTunes 10.7.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to scan the media folder and catch up with any changes made since the backup file was created.

I have a new laptop with Windows8. Itunes library and store for puchasing works well BUT when I try and sync my ipod it tells me that it is synced but IT IS NOT. Can I do this manually?

What have you got selected on the various tabs such as Music & Videos to be synced? It is possible to select to sync with "Selected playlists, artists, albums and genres" and then not make any selections. With iTunes 11 you should also be able to add individual tracks manually if you so wish.

Clearly iTunes 11 was built for Windows 8...where Apple failed miserably was to assume that everyone would have Windows 8 instantly. I don't know what they were thinking...iTunes 11 is impossible to use on a Win7 machine, or even really at all. It is the worst software update I've ever seen. They removed loads of functionality, the ability to see all the info I wanted to about my music and to organize it in a manner I preferred. Now you have no choices, no Genius playlists, no nothing.
There was a reason I started buying music from Amazon a couple years ago (mostly price) and I now even use the Amazon Cloud Player on my iPod because honestly Apple is just dropping the ball lately. Was Steve Jobs the only one at the company with GOOD ideas? I mean please...you guys by far charge the most money for your stuff, but at least it used to function better than the rest...when it stops functioning better than everyone else's does, you will lose your market share.
Please either re-release iTunes 10 or try again ASAP on iTunes 12. 11 is just terrible!

i have bee using apple mac since 1986.
my thesis was about apple.
for the first time i am hating Apple. I starting to think i don't want another Apple in my life. Even my moniker has been macmax since the early 90's but Lord, i don't need to suffer so much to fight for an empire that is not mine.
Apple, get back to the pirate days and remember we were there when you needed us. We need you now to get back to form.
Get back our iTunes please. Get back to making good products again please.

I'm the 1000th poster to complain about iTunes 11. I went back to iTunes 10.7.0.21, and haven't "updated" iTunes since.
I've switched-off automatic updates of all Apple Updates, be it iTunes, my iPhone and/or QuickTime, because I no longer trust that Apple won't screw-up the way I have my PC and Apple gadgets set-up. (Anyone remember iOS 4, and how it wouldn't work properly, let alone download fully?!)
Apple - Your users love your products, which is why we buy them. BUT we want to be able to use them in the way WE want to use them, not the way YOU want us to use them. Gadgets/Tech should be functional as well as tactile and goregous to look at. They should also be about making our lives easier NOT more stressful.
iTunes 11 is NOT nice to look at.
iTunes 11 is NOT functional
iTunes 11 does NOT look good on non-Windows 8 PC's
iTunes 11 IS bloated, and ultimately...
...iTunes 11 does NOT make my life easier
In fact, iTunes 11 makes my life harder. So please, for all of the people across the globe who have e-mailed you and posted messages on message boards, forums, chat sites, and social media platforms, about iTunes 11 being an unbelievably horrible "update", please GIVE US BACK THE OLD ITUNES WE SO DESPERATELY CRAVE!

I actually desperately want to go back to an older version however - I'm not really a Windows user, I'm running this on a Mac, and for one reason or another - or 30 - I just cannot get it to work for me. I've tried posting for help numoerous times but most of my posts, if not all of them, have been deleted over there on the mac side. Which is how I ended up here. I dont know what I've done wrong. Dont know if I'll ever figure that out.
Its actually made me even more upset than I already was originally.
Add that to the fact that I've felt sort of stomped on by some of the other forum visitors and probably will be even more for mentioning that now - I'm not saying anyhting about everyone in general, just 1 or 2 guys of course.
This whole thing has been a horrible experience for me. I dunno....I just know that nothing iTunes related is working for me.
Plain and simple - it doesnt work. I want the old one back. Cant get it. Dont want to be yelled at. Dont want my posts deleted. Thats about it! There ya go.
I tried following all of the instructions for various methods that could possibly recover files or possibly run older versions of iTunes but...no cigar. I did something to get the toolbr or whatever to show, to make this crud version of iTunes more eyeball friendly but it still reeks.
I love how nobody at Apple is doing or saying anything. That is such ugly behavior. As if we'll just take anything and never leave. As if we wont speak out elsewhere. And now I've probably said something that will get THIS post deleted. Sigh...I dont know. I guess I've given up on ever getting help - really if i could just get someone to clearly & concisely tell me how to get an older version of iTunes onto my MacBook Pro without needing to earn a PhD in network engineering and programming and desktop humping I'd be one happy little once and future Windows user.
I thought I'd never cross back over to the Dark Side. But....I dont really have the money to keep on with all this mishugas anyhow. People ask me all the time why I'm paying so much extra for Macs when I'm living on a disability income. I say I guess its because I can pay one time and know that I am set for a few years, rather than getting a PC and having to replace it 5 seconds later (plus buy all these safety accessories for it & whatnot)...But its just becoming such a burden and hassle and little issues like iTunes are an example of my disillusionment with Apple. I have this bitter little taste forming on my tongue.
Sort of like when I was married and that started to dissolve.
