Only if the album contains photos from a separate import.  If the Trash bin is from the original holidays import and the album is from the holiday snaps imports emptying the trash will not affect the holiday snaps album.

1 - you need to be careful with words - I believe you are using album when you mean event - there is a major difference  --  going through your post as posted

I have say 300 pics in a folder called "Holiday snaps from camera"  in my desktop.

    OK

I import them to iphoto and create an album - call it "holidays"

Importing the photos typoically does not create an album (although it is possible) - it creates one or more events - typically you then create albums which may or may not include all of those photos

I trash the " holidays" album totally

Now the album you created is gone but the underlying photos are still in their events

I then go back to desktop " Holiday snaps from camera" and delete some of them and rearange  them so now I have 250 pics.

Ok - this has no effect on iPhoto in anyway

I import them in iphoto and create another album called "holiday snaps final"

and again Importing the photos typically does not create an album (although it is possible) - it creates one or more events - typically you then create albums which may or may not include all of those photos - doing exactly what you say you now have one album "holiday snaps final" with 250 photos and 550 photos (300 from the first import and 250 from the second import)  in two or more events

If i then go to iphoto trash and trash the original album " holidays" - will that also trash my newly created album "holiday snaps final" which contains all the same photos?

No as stated many time in answering you, there is no connection - each photo is in the library and can be viewed several ways - and deleting albums does not affect photos in the library - it simply removes the album and has no effect on the photo its self - each import creates new event(s) which have no connection to any previous event

We are still in the same loop going through the same questions over and over and over

Your total confusion may be a result of calling event albums - which they are not - albums and events operate totally differently - deleting a photo form an album has not effect on the photo anywhere - it just removes it form the album and nothing going into the trash - deleting from an event does totally delete the photo everywhere in i{Photo and does put the photo in the iPhoto trash - once you empty the iPhoto trash that photo is gone - everywhere - duplicates of it or different photos in other events are not affected in any way - only the photo you delete is deleted

I think an iPhoto class would be a giant help to you - you do not understand how iPhoto works - even the tutorials will help some if you become specific on your language - http://www.apple.com/support/iphoto/

WOW! thank you - so if I trash the trash and something goes wrong, can I restore the trash using Time Machine?

  • LarryHN Level 9 Level 9 (61,355 points)

You can not "restore the trash" - you can restore the iPhoto library completely - if Time Machine is properly set up, is running and nothing goes wrong

    again

I think an iPhoto class would be a giant help to you - you do not understand how iPhoto works

and a general Mac class too

What you are doing is a very slow and frustrating way to learn

One more question - in Finder - Pictures - iphoto Library - if I click on it it opens iphoto - is there any other way of seeing seperate pics instead of opening iphoto. If that has r=everything, then it must also contain the trash so i can see and delete it and not being bothered about removing original pics. Am I being too simplistic?

If you've moved the photos to the Trash bin the album will be empty if they are the same photos.  So, if you album is still showing the photos you can empty the trash.

As I've explained - iPhoto is a database and you must use iPhoto to view your photos - you can access them using the media browser in the lower left of every open/attach/upload window  --  see this user tip for complete information on accessing your photos

And as explained several times, trash (and events, albums, etc) are not places - your photo exists in the iPhoto library - everything else is a view of those photos - database entries - not a place or folder or anything else - just database entries - yu have to use iPhoto to see the database

Once more - you seem to keep missing it

I havent done anything as yet - just want to see all my photos in library folder to determine what is in it

  • Booberoi Level 1 Level 1 (5 points)

I cannot beleive I cannot get this question answered  - " if i have exactly the same photo in an Events folder as I have in trash - and delete the one in trash will my photo stll be in events so now instead of having a duplicate I only hacve one - please answer that and I'll go away!

  • Old Toad Level 10 Level 10 (121,415 points)

You menentioned imported 3 diffrerent versions of the photo into iPhoto.  So I'm not sure which set of photos are in the album and which are in the trash.

If you have more than one set of the same photos then the set in the trash cannot be the same as those in the album.  Therefore you can empty the Trash bin.

  • Booberoi Level 1 Level 1 (5 points)

Yes there are exacly the same in album and trash

  • Old Toad Level 10 Level 10 (121,415 points)

No, you can't empty the album. The album photos are just alias type pointers to the orignal files in the library.  If you delete the original files from the Event every occurance of that photo will be deleted from the library, i.e. those in books, slideshows, albums, etc.

let me put it simpler - I creat an event - I place a photo in it and then trash it. I place the exactly same photo in i the event. If i trash the photo in the trash will the exact same photo be also gone from the events?

  • LarryHN Level 9 Level 9 (61,355 points)

It has been answered over and over and over

there is no "exactly the same photo - if you have imported the same photo twice and you delete one of them (which is not exactly the same photo becuuse it is from a different import) them the one you delete is gone and the one you did not delete is still there - however if you are viewing exactly the same photo in different ways like albums and events then if you delete it is is gone from all views

It is very simple - totally depends on what you have done (which no one but you knows) and what you have (again which no one but you knows)

once again your problem is you simply do not understand enough to ask a fairly simple question or to understand teh simple answer - you seriopusly need to take the tutorials and several classes - your frustration is from your lack of understanding
