Iphoto trash

I have 2780 photos in trash. A lot of them are same pictures as in my albums and slideshows. Are these same pics or just different locations - what I mean is if i delete all these will i lose same pics in my iphoto albums and slideshows?

Yes

And generally iPhoto does not handle large trash bins well - it is recommended that you delete photos in small batches of 100 or so

while your post is short of details I believe that you are missing a major point of iPhoto - iPhoto is a SQLite database and photos are in its library - there are many ways of viewing these photos - events - photos - paces - faces - albums - slideshows - keepsake projects - etc

All of these ways of viewing a photo are simply using the database to show you the photo that is in the library so if you delete that photo it is gone - everyplace -- those are not copies of photo sbut just database entries pointing to the photo

Probably (just a guess) you should return all photos in the trash to the library (open the iPhoto trash, select all, right click on a photos and put back)

To delete photos start in an event and select the photo(s) and press teh delete key then empty the iPhoto trash and the system trash - again do this in small batches of 100 or so

I understand that the library is where all photos initiate - so if i delete the photos in iphoto trash - that should not affect the library folder as these pics in trash are just another representation of them - correct.? so thet will be in my events, albums etc - right?

Are the pics in trash holding any memory - if not then I can leave them there - correct?

When you empty the iPhoto Trash bin the photos in it will be removed from the library and the hard drive. However, if you have duplicates of some of them in the library those duplicate files will not be deleted from the library.

However, when in there the are just pointers to the real files in the library so they don't take up any extra disk space.

If you plan on deleting all of those photos that are in the trash you can try it at one time but before doing so go into the iPhoto/General preference pane and uncheck the "Show item counts" check box.

User uploaded file

That allowed one user to delete a large number of photos at one time without crashing. Worth a try.

No you do not understand - if you delete a photo from the library it is gone everywhere - from all views - events - albums - all views

so if you delete that photo it is gone - everyplace

Having a photo in the trash does not increase storage requirements - but the trash is a really poor place to have photos your want to keep - it is a place to trash photos, not store them - and it is limited in size for emptying so haveing photos stored there will make it unusable for its intended purpose - deleting photos

You need to get the photos you want out of th trash, get the trash down to 100 or so photo sand empty it

Were there duplicates in your library? If the ones in the trash were duplicates then emptying the trash will not affect the remaining photos

Any photo that is deleted will be gone from all views of that photo - events, albums, etc, etc, etc

And you may have a problem with so many photos in your trash - as mentioned multiple tiems in this thread

We seem to be in an infinite loop

Hi - thank you to all but i still have not been aswered the dasic question.

Let me make this scenario:

I have say 300 pics in a folder called "Holiday snaps from camera" in my desktop.

I import them to iphoto and create an album - call it "holidays"

I trash the " holidays" album totally

I then go back to desktop " Holiday snaps from camera" and delete some of them and rearange them so now I have 250 pics.

I import them in iphoto and create another album called "holiday snaps final"

If i then go to iphoto trash and trash the original album " holidays" - will that also trash my newly created album "holiday snaps final" which contains all the same photos?

That is the scenario I have at the moment - only instead of 300 I have about 2700 from different albums deleted and recreated.

Thanks
