fCPX and Apple TV
Is there a way to use Apple TV with FCPX? I'm new to Apple TV and I don't exactly know how it works when it comes to the computer. I understand with the ipad and iphone but not the computer.

Not necessarly as a 2nd monitor. We have 3 macs and we want to be able to watch our final producions on a big screen in our studio from any one of our computers. So the only way to watch stuff from your computer is through iTunes? Not Quicktime?
The Apple TV can play videos 'from' a Mac's iTunes Library. FCPX has settings to 'share' a video you make such that it appears in the iTunes Library.
Maybe you're asking whether you can use the Apple TV as a 'second monitor' while you work on a video in FCPX -- no, you can't.
AFAIK the Quicktime Player doesn't support AirPlay but iTunes does. So you can't 'project' what's playing in the QuickTime Player onto the Apple TV but you can use AirPlay (on the Mac) to play an iTunes video on the TV. Or you can bring up the Mac(s)'s iTunes video list(s) on the Apple TV and play/control it from there.
While you can share a Mac's desktop and view it on an Apple TV, it's more cumbersome and resolution-smearing than just opening iTunes and clicking the box-with-arrow-at-the-bottom glyph that's at the top of the iTunes window (latest 11.0 version, but similar in 10.x). Video will appear on the Apple TV.
When you're "in" FCPX you haven't really specified the quality of the final production. That's expressed when you export or share a version.
Aperture is similar in that matter: It's non-destructive and only when you export a version does it encapsulate your editing instructions and create a file at a particular resolution and compression.
FCPX does have a "share to Apple TV button" but then you still get to pick whether it's 720p or 1080p. (It's labeled "Share to Apple Devices...") The result neither resides nor belongs 'in' FCPX and is put into the iTunes Library.
You can 'watch' your FCPX project on the Apple TV while you're 'in' FCPX but it's a little clumsy. (As I mentioned before, you're mixing screen resolutions, to the quality isn't the best-possible.) You're going to have to switch between screen-views as it isn't truly use-my-Apple-TV-as-a-second-monitor.
"AirPlay Mirroring" can be set up in your Display Preferences (see System Preferences). For convenience, set it to show in the Menu Bar. Then you can run FCPX in fullscreen mode and show your Project on the Apple TV while you work on it.
After I open iTunes, where do I click? By the way, I freaking hate iTunes but if it's what I have to use, I'll use it. There isn't a way to mirror the desktop?
Partially answered in my previous message but iTunes is also the vehicle to share videos with an iPhone/iPad/iPod.
Thanks. I think I have it figured out now. I wish FCPX had a share to Apple TV button.
I want to be able to view it on a big screen monitor for all of us to critique before I export to air.
