Is there a way to retroactively decrypt my mobilesync backup mountain lion, or do I need to backup my iPhone again to do this?

I went to my mobile sync folder to try and recover a deleted SMS message, but it was all encrypted. Worried if I back up the phone again, my deleted messages will be gone. Thanks.
