Download the 30 day trial of FCPX. Take it for a spin and see how well it fits your needs.
Some people call it iMovie Pro because the interfaces and terminolgy are similar. Moving to it from iMovie might actually be easier than coming from a more traditional editorlike FCP or Premier Pro.

Definitely go for FCP X as you will find the interface comfortingly familiar and FCP X is light years ahead of FCE/FCP which are now obsolete.
In fact FCE/FCP may not work properly on the latest Operating Systems and certainly won't in ones to come.
