how do I slow my mac mini (2007)'s 5501 rpm fans

Hi, I have a old 2007 mac mini that I recently had taken to best buy to upgrade the ram, after the upgrade it is always loud and Istat says that the fan is at ~5500 RPM and another mac (which is silent) says only 1800 rpm under the same (and higher) workload. the loud mac has temperature of (according to Istat):

hard drive:81 degrees F

CPU: 94 F

CPU Heatsink: 83 F

Northbridge 1: 85 F

Northbridge 2: 81 F

the computer is cool to the touch

Please help me slow down the overactive fan on this mac, ~patrick

thanks, however it did not work. 😟

additional details: I forgot to mention that the computer did not work at first after installing the RAM, so the people at bestbuy took out the hard drive to back it up, we later reinstalled the hard drive and fixed it, but from then on the fan was going too fast.~patrick

Run the Apple Hardware test, as per > Using Apple Hardware Test

It sound like the Hard Drive's Temperature sensor is damaged or has not been correctly reconnected to the logicboard.

thanks, the hardware test had error code: 4SNS/40000000:TAOP-128.000

would this be the problem and if so how can I fix it? ~patrick

I have no idea if they removed, damaged or just forgot to plug the sensor back in. You really should take it back and make whomever worked on it fix the problem.

Also if you do not feel comfortable with the service you received at BestBuy, report them to Apple and take it to another Authorized Apple Service Provider or Apple Store.
