How can I get my iPhoto book to complete assembly/ purchase?

I am running iPhoto 11 (9.4.2) on Mountain Lion, using it to create photo books. Everytime I try to buy a book it gets as far as uploading but crashes during assembly. I have tried (as suggested on forums) doing a Simple reboot by holding down the shift key. That worked twice, but the third time and every one since, iPhoto crashes and closes while in the process of assembly. Nowhere to go from here?

imac, macbook, iphone + air, Mac OS X (10.5.4), mac user since 1982

corrections in terminology: it assembles but doesn't upload, and I rebooted in Safe (not simple) mode.

Before ordering your book preview it using this method - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 - and save the resulting PDF for reference - the delivered book will match it.

if that does not complete boot into safe mode and preview - once you have a good preview order

In this version of iPhoto the it looks like you need to press control while clicking in the book's background to preview & generate a pdf. Will try it.

No go. I managed to preview and save the PDF in normal mode, but the book hung up during upload just as before. I rebooted in safe mode but when I tried to preview it hung up immediately. Any other ideas?
