Itunes 11 deleted ALL my music!

After going into Itunes after updating, all my music is showing the ! next to the song saying itunes cannot find the original file. Everything was there and working yesterday. Went into the itunes library where it would normally be stored. NOTHING. My computer is saying I have 9kb of music on it. There should be over 160 gigs. I have a time capsule backup from October, but there is no way to get anything I added this month back.

Is anyone else having this issue?

I know it's clearing the library files. As soon as a file is moved to the trash, the metadata in the library files is deleted.

And there is no undo button.

It is also possible (though I have not seen it) that the metadata (and entries) for files is being deleted. If you still have your music/podcasts in their regular folders, that would indicate that this is happening.

When I worked on DIrector and Shockwave back in the mid '90s, we would NEVER ship a product with known data loss bug(s) like this. I know, because I tested the **** out of those products.

And I agree. Steve is rolling in his grave. And at a pretty high and constant RPM, it appears.

I have Windows 7 and just downgraded to Itunes 10.7. I call it what it is, a downgrade, because I really liked Itunes 11, until it started erasing my entire library. Before Itunes 11 erased everything, I had my library orgainized just the way I wanted it. When I downloaded my music files into 10.7 I got a mess. Most of the songs were doubled and tripled. Some of the track info was changed. I got Jason Aldean songs mixed in with an Alan Jackson album. I tried to take out the doubled songs and 10.7 crashed. I had to reload my music files and all of my new playlists vanished. I ran a diagnostic, left the doubled and tripled songs alone and I have had no trouble with Itunes 10.7

I hope its a bug, not on purpose. It makes sense. When I lost my entire library, the only thing I had was purchased items in the Icloud. It transferred some songs to an Itunes folder on my external hard drive.

I had itunes 11 installed for a few weeks now and suddenly today I realized that all of my old music (except music that I had recently purchased on the itunes store) had been completely wiped out. I then search my itunes media folder and found all of my old music there. I don't know why or how it itunes 11 deleted my music, but I am so glad I found it on my computer. Hope this helps out.

Hi all,

I'd just like to contribute to this thread and add I'm having the exact same issue. iTunes 11 deletes all non-Apple purchased music and moves the .itl and associated files to the recyle bin, hence losing all playlists, ratings and play counts. With over 200gb of music and years of crafted playlists I am extremely livid with Apple and their second-rate products. How a reputable piece of software can be released with such a critical bug as this is beyond me. I'm truly disgusted with Apple's poor customer service on this matter and exceedingly low quality software releases. This issue alone is sufficient for me to reconsider my usage and purchase of Apple products.

Hopefully more people, including tech media, will pick up on this serious problem and a patch will be released soon.

I don't know where you find it, but ever since my Avast Anti-Virus told me about iTunes 11.02.26 for Windows 7, and I installed it, I haven't had any library wipe problems. It's been almost a week now that I've opened up iTunes and everything hasn't been gone.

I haven't had faith enough to do a total rebuild of my library yet, but I just thought I'd share this with you all.

Upon opening my iTunes library, I noticed that files immediately appear in my Recycle Bin. I opened the Bin to see exactly what was in there, because it was empty prior to me opening my iTunes, and to my surprise it was my "iTunes Library Extras" folder and my "iTunes Library Genius" folder. I restored both of the folders after I closed iTunes to see if the issue would be resolved, but no luck. I've tried opening iTunes again and the same folders jumped right into the Recycle Bin again. I am completely clueless as to why this keeps happening. The only files that are still in my library are those that were bought through iTunes (the same issue everyone else seems to be having). An explanation and an immediate fix to this problem would be greatly appreciated!...😠
