Q: Itunes 11 deleted ALL my music!

After going into Itunes after updating, all my music is showing the ! next to the song saying itunes cannot find the original file. Everything was there and working yesterday. Went into the itunes library where it would normally be stored. NOTHING. My computer is saying I have 9kb of music on it. There should be over 160 gigs. I have a time capsule backup from October, but there is no way to get anything I added this month back.

Is anyone else having this issue?

MacBook Pro (15-inch Late 2011), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

I found about 10% of my original library (9.9G) in the recycle bin. I hit "restore all items," and it seems to be OK now...a lot of the missing and duplicate files from my itunes library page seem to have gone away.

For the second time in the last month, I opened iTunes to find that my entire library had been wiped clean. All my playlists, gone. All my music, gone, all my ratings, gone. All the music is still on my computer, but iTunes is behaving as if it's a brand new program to my computer. I cannot restore the music using old library files, because those seem to only have purchased music on them. Previous to this happening a month ago, I'd gone YEARS with iTunes on this computer and no problems at all. Apple *****, and I will never, ever purchase anything from the iTunes store again.

This happened to me.  I just spent last month uploading about 400 CD's from my collection and now they are gone! I am extremely angry.  All of my hard work is gone.  It seems to me like Apple is trying to force me to pay for the Cloud membership.  I don't have any extra money at the moment, so I have not signed up for the cloud year for $24.99.  I think I should be able to use itunes with all of my music for free.  I purchased an ipod, and I should have access to use my music on the device even when the music isn't purchased online.

Which version of iTunes do you have installed and which OS version is this happening on Sean?

I lost all my goods (still restoring the 6000+ podcasts) on the first version of the product and I've heard that my bug was fixed in vers 11.0.3.

But if we don't know the specifics where this is happening, it's a little harder to try and solve it.

    Let us know, OK?

I'm using Windows 7. Which I have used for years without issue. The first time iTunes reset, I was using v10. I had refused to update to 11 because I detest the new layout (yes, I know how to get it back close to the traditional layout). I figured iTunes was punishing me for not updating, so I updated. And now, with v11, it has reset again.

    But there is iTunes version 11.0, 11.0.1, 11.0.2, 11.0.3.

I need to know the exact version that in on your PC that caused this problem.  There can be months of developer work in between each version.

This is why I stated that my bug was fixed in version 11.0.3.  It's present in every one before that though.  So, what is the exact version # of iTunes that is installed on your PC?

11.02.25. It is the most recent version of iTunes available for the PC.

Thanks.  I'll check around and see if I come up with anything.  It might be a while before an answer though.

    Good luck, BTW.

Ok don't kno wwhat the **** happened, but I just rebooted my machine and my original iTunes came up with my old music list in it and it is now copying back my music. ITunes is ridiculously confusing....Think i might have to look for an alternative.

Ok turns out iTunes cleared my phone, but not the songs on my computer. My music was still on my computer. I decided to use a third party software to manage the data on my iphone/ipad except for the apps, which I don't even think I need as long as they update through wifi.

If you can't find your music, do a search through explorer of all .mp3 files and use a third party software to transfer music/videos etc..

Don't think I'll be going back to iTunes

    good luck

Hey everyone, check your computer's garbage! I had this problem too, and i had a huge fit about it, and am concidering getting a new computer, but I looked in the trash and itunes had moved not only music that i had imported from cds, but actual music I had spent hard earned money on, into the trash bin.
