Can't set media kind to podcast since iTunes 11 upgrade

I'm having the same issue on Windows 8. I can still set the music file to "Remember playback position" and "Skip when shuffling" successfully, which might help you deal with listening to the file over multiple sittings. No clue about 30 second rewinds, sorry!

I would really like to add my podcast file to the Podcast section of the library, though. I listen to the Mike O'Meara Show and Big O and Dukes, and I've got hundreds of older podcast files for both shows. I'd like to keep the new files organized with the old ones, if I can.

You CAN convert something from Music to Audiobook, if that helps. (If you try converting from Audiobook to Podcast, it goes back into the Music section - at least, when we tried.)

To add another issue: When I try to add my podcasts to a playlist so I can find them easily (to get around the issue above), the podcasts don't appear on the playlist after I've synced it to my iPod Classic. They're still in the iTunes playlist, but on the iPod they're just gone. Regular music in the playlist still appears.

What happened to podcasts?! I _like_ podcasts! It's all I really listen to on my iPod! 😢

same problem here. I've become used to adding a large audio files which iTunes Match will not match nor upload. Then, I change the media type to PODCAST. Then, I can sync that to the iPhone. I have to think Apple will fix this soon but until then, it'll be a drag.

I have the same basic issue, but with videos. I like to change "music videos" to "movies" so all of my visual media shows up in the same place and because I don't really want to have videos in my audio playlists etc or on random. I used to be able to do this, but now I can't and I have music videos stuck in my MUSIC section.

SUPER ANNOYING iTUNES.

I've got the same problem. Here is a temporary workaround in windows:

install mp3tag v2.53, a free tag editor {Google it}

select mp3 file to set as a podcast

right click file, select extended tabs

select starpage icon

create these fields and values :

field: COMMENT ITUNPGAP

value: 0

field: PODCAST

value: 1

field: PODCASTDESC

value: any value, Example ; The Saint

field: PODCASTID

value: any value, Example ; The Saint

field: PODCASTURL

value: any value, Example ; The Saint

field: RELEASETIME

value: Example ; 2012-11-28T12:00:00Z

Same here. I used to be able to convert an MP3 to podcast and then move it to my iphone. Now it doesn't keep the type as podcast. And I can't sync it as music because it's ineligible for itunes match. I'm so happy that a service that I pay extra for is blocking me from manually adding any music whatsoever to my iphone unless it's in iCloud. This better be fixed soon or I'm going back to manual syncing and canceling itunes match!

Same problem here. Its VERY VERY frustrating. I have 40GB worth or self added podcasts and it will not save the changes when changing the type to Podcast and even beyond that iTunes Match is constantly trying to upload all 750 tracks to the cloud. I do NOT want 750 of my podcast in the cloud. Please fix this Apple.
