Airplay mirroring stopped working

Hi,

i have a problem which i can't solve.

My MacBook Pro Retina 15'' was able to use the airplay video mirroring on the AppleTV 3 without problems.

Some days ago, i saw, that the icon was not longer available in the menu bar.

The system settings just shows "No device found".

I can use the AppleTV for audio streaming without problems.

I tried another AppleTV (also with latest software) and it doesn't work, too.

So it seems to be a problem wirth my MacBook.

Is there any settings file, system component or other file, i should check (or maybe delete)?

I took a look into the system console and found the following entries regarding "airplay"

You can see, that i started audio airplay from iTunes, but there are two lines that may show some problem.

Does anybody have a hint?

One additional hint: I can use the airplay video mirroring from my iPhone and iPad, it works fine.

So it really seems to be an issue of the MacBook.

I tried to perform the 10.8.2 combo update, bit it refuses to install. I found some hints, that this doesn't work due to the supplemental updates 1&2. This is really some bad situation, that there seems to be no combo update for my computer.

Do i need to reinstall the whole system?

Ok, i fixed it.

Just for documentation:

I started the MacBokk with Command-R

I choosed to reinstall Mountain Lion

After the system was installed again, AirPlay Mirroring was working perfectly again.

I had to update the system again, but everything is fine again.

All installed software is still working, so it was quite easy, no need to istall everything again.

Checking the console output, now the AirPlay agent seems to work, so this was definately the problem:

You can see it seems to start correctly in 1080p

Hi,

A few days ago I eventually did a PRAM reset on my MacBookPro 13 inch (the mid 2012 model). I followed the instructions at: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379. After the reset, AirPlay mirroring from my MacBookPro works fine.

In the past, I also had issues with my Mac not correctly detecting external displays. The PRAM reset also fixed those.

I hope this works for you.

Finally i got the solution: After again reinstalling the System, Airplay Video Mirroring worked.

To save some space on my internal SSD, i have copied the Apple Garageband and Logic Sound Libraries to an external hard drive.

After setting the symbolic link to this hard drive, the Airplay Mirroring failed again.

So I did some additional checking and found the problem:

There is a driver in Macintosh HD/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/HAL/AirPlay.driver

OSX seems not to be able to resolve the symbolic link for this driver, so i copied it back to the internal drive and it finally worked again.

Using symbolic links seems to be dangerous:-)
