Has iTunes 11 removed my purchased song files from my hard drive?

True, is it?

Has iTunes 11 removed my purchased song files from my hard drive? When I go to "Get Info" there is no "Reveal in Finder". There is for music purchased elsewhere, right there on my HD. So, I have to download my purchased music AGAIN?

If I don't download them, aside from NOT BEING ABLE TO LISTEN TO MUSIC WHEN I AM OFFLINE, what will happen when I sync to my Classic iPod? Will Apple also remove my purchase music from my iPod?

And.... the ratings are gone. In both cases, when I stream from the cloud god and after I download.

Yes, I'm being told I can download various tracks (that I thought had already BEEN downloaded!) from iCloud. What the...?

That's my understanding of it too. I downloaded all my iTunes songs that were apparently "clouded" and taken off my drive, and I've had to re-rate them. The good news is that I rarely buy music from iTunes so I 'only' had to do this for some 400 tunes. This experience will make dead sure positive that I find music elsewhere. I'm so very old-fashioned, I still like to own what I've bought.

If, if, this is all true, it's an astounding display of arrogance for a corporation to go into your drive and remove items that have been purchased, and to do it without warning.

Anyway,

I opened iTunes
Opened Store & signed in
Went to Purchases in Quick Links
Selected All Songs
When given the option to "download all," I did.

It took a couple of tries - had to Force Quit a couple of times. Once I restarted my computer, it was fine. I didn't rate anything, so I didn't have it to lose. I did notice some of the songs in the infernal cloud were ones that I had lost when I upgraded to Snow Leopard a couple of years ago & lost EVERYTHING in the process, so getting all those songs back was a pleasant surprise. A couple of TV shows that I had deleted to save hard drive space were also available, if I want any of them, I guess.

I was able to download from within iTunes, so downloading isn't the problem, but a question, did Apple remove your previously downloaded files in this update thereby forcing you to re-download them?

I'm not sure. At one point, yes, they had all been downloaded, including purchased ones I had deleted, and the ones I didn't get back after my Snow Leopard disaster. I "only" had 100 songs in the blasted cloud.
