Photoshop File Save useing Photoshop as external editor

When I open a file using Photoshop CS2 as the external editor within Aperture 1.1 I can't save the file and view it in Aperture. I get an error message in Photoshop: "Could not complete your request due to a program error". I have to do a "save as" and import the "saved as" file into Aperture. This is true whether I try to save as a PSD file or as a TIFF.

Does anyone know how I can save files in Photoshop and view them as a version in Aperture?

Aperture can read both TIFF & PSD files externally edited from Photoshop. There might be something in those files you are trying to save that may be causing the issue.

Where did they originate? And what was the format? Does a JPEG work externally edited? Have you tried externally editing via another appl?

It might be good to send us a file so we can try it.

These files were imported into the Aperture library from folders of pictures on my hard drive and then exported from Aperture to Photoshop for editing. When I try to save the edited files in Photoshop, (which is supposed to automatically put it back in Aperture) I get the photoshop error mentioned in my original question. Aperture may be able to read TIFF and PSD files, but that doesn't help if Photoshop is unable to save the exported Aperture version back into Aperture. It appears to me that this is a photoshop error message due to some sort of incompatibility with Aperture. That's my guess, but it still does not solve my problem.

You say the files were imported, but what were they originally? RAW, PSD, TIFF, JPEG? And had you already adjusted them or were they "virgin"?

I send "versions" as TIFFs or PSDs from Aperture into CS2 and they save back, all layers intact, perfectly. Be careful to select only "save", no "save as".

I'd suggest opening the original files from your desktop in Photoshop, then resaving them. I'd do a Save As just to be safe. Make sure they are flattened and try again. There may have been some other factor involved.

I can Export these formats fine.

Send one over this way, and I'll try that particulare file on my machines.

Keep also in mind that Aperture can only handle RGB images. If you are converting them to CMYK in Photoshop they won't go back to Aperture.

Which won't make any difference when it comes to saving the file in Photoshop. It sounds like the permissions on the Aperture Library may be messed up, not letting Photoshop alter the file.

Try selecting the Library in the Finder and hit Command+I to get info. Look under Ownership & Permissions and see if the area marked 'You can' says 'Read & Write'.
