Sometimes, when I start my iMac in the morning, my screen comes up blank (white). I then have to shut it off, wait ten seconds and turn in on again, and it successfully starts. Is there something wrong with the computer?

Boot into recovery mode by holding the command and r keys down when you boot. Then use Disk Utility to repair the hard drive, and while there, repair permissions. Assuming there were no errors that Disk Utility couldn't repair, reboot the system normally.

Have you done a PRAM reset, CMD+Option+p+r...

Thanks to BGreg! As of today, 12-04-12, I have had three successful start ups. If anything else happens I will try the other remedies suggested in the above posts.
Thanks also to BDAqua for the suggestion. I have printed out both answers in case I get into trouble.
