when it get to low on the battery it shuts down

Try the normal troubleshooting steps,
Restart
Reset your phone by holding down the home and off button until the apple symbol comes up.
Restore your phone in itunes.
If the battery is going bad then you will need to take it to apple store and have them replace it or better yet get a newer phone.
