piercing beep every 40 seconds

My 800Mhz G4 has just started making a piercing, high-pitched beep every 40 seconds. It's not coming from the speakers, but from the unit itself. It is extremely distracting.

Any ideas why it does this and how to fix it?

Thanks in advance

Dave --
Thanks for having the courage to post about finding your solution.
We have all experienced the "duh" moments.
But most don't let us know when it's something very simple
that we've completely overlooked.

Personally, we've been upset when my husband's mini screen all of sudden didn't work. He forgot that he had unplugged it when installing a bridge.
We've all done things like this.

No one is laughing at you.
We're just remembering similar "aha" moments.
Again, thanks for posting back.
Keep on keepin' on.
🙂

Hello again DaveMcK

Dumb moves, oh plenty for me, Reminds me of allowing my itunes helper to stay in startup items while I ran disk repair, that of course was not funny to me, though i am sure it is funny to some. The responsibility lays with the user, your issue was ever so benign, which is what made it funny, to me.

Again, thanks for the light, comic relief.

Sincere regards.
Eme
