Is it possible to convert a mov format to avi without loosing quality and money?

The depends on a number of factors. Since AVI is basically just an Audio-Video Interleaf container, if the source audio and video are in compression formats that can be simply "copied/intetleaved" to the target container and, if you already have software that will do this, then "Yes, it can done without loss of quality or having to purchase additional apps. On the other hand, if you have to transcode the source data as part of the interleaving process to place it in th AVI wrapper, then there is always the possibity of losing some visual quality. How much will depend on the specific codecs involved and the settings used.


As to specific software, I can't help you there since AVI is a legacy file container for which Microsoft dropped official support more than a decade ago when the more modern WMV container/codecs were introduced and now that the latest Mac operationg systems come defaulted with legacy codecs disabled. Basically, I don't see why anyone would want to use AVI with support continuing to dwindle the way is is.
