iTunes 11: don't sync apps

Why is there no longer a checkbox to disable "sync apps" in iTunes 11?

I hate managing apps with iTunes, but I like to save copies of my IPA files in iTunes (since Apple likes to pull things you buy so that you can never get them again). So I keep my apps in iTunes but keep "sync apps" disabled.

In iTunes 11 this option is gone, so iTunes just tries to sync any apps not on my phone to my phone. Despite them not even being checked in the apps section, and the "automatically sync new apps" box unchecked, iTunes says "determining apps to sync" and then tries to put 3 pages of apps on my phone.

How do I make iTunes 11 stop trying to manage apps on my phone, short of not keeping any apps in iTunes?

This is crazy! I use iTunes only for backup and synching music, but NEVER Apps. I like to decide for every App update and do it manually right from the App Store in the phone. iTunes did a great job until this update to version 11. Now iTunes it is pushing all the unwanted updates and ipad Apps, etc, that i don't want...Apple is upsetting me....Ugggg! Now i cannot revert the situation, even the last backup didn't helped!

If Apple want to keep its current long-term customer base satisfied, they need to think in keeping consistency for new versions...is not the first time... (remember Google Maps on IOS 5 or Youtube....)

What version of iOS? I have a few apps that I have deleted on my iPhone

and they are there in iTunes with an install on it but they don't sync.

Update: I just did a test. I deleted an app on my iPhone. Plugged it in

to iTunes to sync and it did not sync the deleted app. In the

app list it did display an install button.

FWIW, iPhone 4S, iOS 6.0, iTunes 11.01, OSX 10.8.2, USB sync.

Also, "Automatically sync when iPhone is connected" is checked.

Thanks for your help.

The tip from you:

On the apps pane at the bottom of Apps list window is

the check box to disable auto sync of apps.

is not the problem, cause this checkbox was with me already disabled.

I have an iPhone 5 with iOS 6.0.2, a Macbook with OSX 10.8.2 and iTunes 11.0.1.

I also got like this issue. I used iTune 11.0.2.26 on window 8 and tried to sync apps which I have already downloaded by iTune to my iPhone 5. I could sync music, movies, podcasts and books except apps.Sync stopped when it's determining. I have red a lot of forums about this issue. But I could not find any convenient answer about it. Is there anybody who can suggest how to solve this issue?

I had the similar problem. I couldn't sync my musics because itunes need to sync my apps first but it shows 'the iPhone could not be synced because this computer is no longer authorised for purchased items that are on this iPhone'. So the sync stops. I authorised to my computer, but it doesn't work.

Finally I found this problem caused by my apple account. I changed the reigion of my account from country A to country B recently. I used the same account ID but registed in country B to authorised my computer but the apps are bought with the same ID but registed in country A. So the problem comes.

To solve it, I chaged my ID registed reigion back to country A and deleted 'C:\ProgramData\Apple Computer\iTunes\SC Info' folder (hiden folder). After that, authorised my computer again. Then I can sync my apps and music.

Hope this help a little bit.

I had the same problem, noticed it before, but tonight terrible...i have apps for my iphone (good), but i want to use my iPod for music only...the sync locked up for ages and ages...i ended up repeatedly trying to "remove" apps which kept loading onto the iPod. I HATE THIS! Apple - please install a box which says "Check box for Install Apps" or otherwise....much of my music could not sync because of the memory grab by the unwanted Apps...

Here is how you correct this problem.

It was nothing i found in iTunes but rather in windows itself.

Keep in mind this is for a Windows PC only so if you're on a MAC you might be SOL...

Navigate to where iTunes stores its files and then to where it stores its installed app folder called "Mobile Applications"

For me the path is:

C:\Users\(name)\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\Mobile Applications

Within this folder you will see a list of Apps that iTunes will try to automatically install to your devices.

Go ahead and either move all of the app files from this location or just delete them.

(No harm will be done as your Apple account knows what you have downloaded and installed)

The only down side to this method is that you will have to re-download the apps if you ever want to re-install them.

After the apps are moved or deleted from this folder, go back to iTunes and then sync your device.

iTunes will no longer try to install unwanted apps because the folder where it stores them is empty.

Side note: The apps you have installed on your phone prior to syncing will be untouched (they will still be on your phone after the sync).
